Perhaps Angel Reese can help solve that problem.
Both Danny Manning and Shay Robinson are now at Louisville. From her tweets it seems they were both mentors to her...so you would have to think it is a possibility.

Reese is more of a scorer, but I can't see her having the same versatility to guard just about any position, or just overall impact on the game. Engstler was pretty much everywhere on the court, doing some of everything.

Horston also scored with Burrell back. My point was teams know that Horston and Jackson need to be guarded. That can free up other players. Depending on what is happening on the play.
Spacing matters. They of course need to be guarded but it’s a lot easier to guard someone when you can go under every screen AND you don’t have to worry about sticking to other shooters.

Maybe Pissott is that. Maybe Tennessee collects offensive boards like SC does. But at some point you need a Henny to keep defenses honest.

Reese guarded 1-5 at Maryland and was a DPOY contender as a sophomore after missing most of her freshman season. She’s still raw defensively but she’s got a higher ceiling than Engstler in just about all facets.
I didn't at all mean to imply Reese isn't a good defender. Engstler just seemed like one of a kind. The kind of havoc she created from one end of the court to the other, can't really think of another player like that, at least not recently.

Burrell didn't score much or efficiently except for maybe...a game and a half after returning. She took fewer shots initially, ceding to Horston...who is a scorer, but not an efficient one. Then Burrell started forcing shots being clearly frustrated. If you box out Horston...her scoring drops at least 7 a game. Horston has to be willing to take fewer shots and let Jackson or someone else take them.

Or maybe TN can play uptempo where Horston seems to be more efficient in scoring. It would also give them more shot attempts to make up for the low shooting percentage as a team. Last season...their rebounding gave them more attempts and compensated for bad shooting. In the Auburn game, even TN outrebounding by 13 didn't stop them from losing because....their other issue...turnovers...22 of them. Harper has stopped the program decline and this year she has a tall task in taking some new pieces and getting them to take a step forward.

Well Horston and Jackson can do more than shoot three's. Jackson led the SEC in scoring.
Probably led SEC in shots attempted, Rickea is best when she can drive and hit the midrange jumper, she can be really good but her coach needs to get her to play to her strengths and take good shots.

I am hearing that Harper wants to play up tempo. I also look for Puckett and Wynn to be improved.

Deundra Edwards is following Louisville Players and Coach Collen of Baylor if that means anything. She also just started following Angel reese ...hmmm

Her current teammate, Lexie Hull, sure comes to mind...

Edwards and Blackwell are in Waco visiting Baylor according to a post of the Baylor board.

Let me clarify a little. Some guards or wings sure. Veronica Burton was certainly known to be very disruptive also. But how many players routinely caused turnovers the full length of the floor, then defended in the post?

I would say you haven’t seen Angel play enough. She is significantly better than Engstler I am not disrespecting Emily, I just think Angel is that much better offensively and her lean and athletic body will allow her to defend anyone on the court.

I would say likewise to you. Looks at steals, blocks, assists. If you don't see that Engstler does significantly more things overall on a basketball court than Reese, don't know what to tell you.

Not sure how either player is significantly better than the other when you compare their stats from last season. Reese wins out in some areas and Engstler in others, but the numbers are close. with the exception of 3 point shooting.

FG% - Reese (0.500) Engstler (0.461)
3FG% - Reese (0.182) Engstler (0.376)
FT% - Reese (0.683) Engstler (0.629)
RPG - Reese (10.6) Engstler (9.4)
APG - Reese (1.5) Engstler (2.3)

I've been waiting for this. I feel like I'm the only one. Lol. I like it. I thought Florida Gulf Coast made sense but Miami was good this year. Should only make the better

A good place to capitalize on NIL

I'm not trying to claim Engstler is better. I would describe her as a Swiss army knife who does some of everything. I don't think that's how a person would describe Reese. Angel is certainly better at some things than Emily, I just don't think she's as versatile. Both are obviously very valuable players.

Didn't take it as that from you @nwhoopfan. It was just interesting how both players compared when I looked at the stats after reading read your post along with @DefenseBB. It made me think of this Spiderman meme.

I agree that Engstler is a lot more versatile, however I would say for the moment as Reese has 2 more seasons to go. I watched a lot of BIG10 play this past season and have to say Reese has to work on some things offensively before I could agree she's better than Engstler. However, Friese didn't play/use Reese in the same manner as how Walz would play Engstler to be fair to Reese.

It could be very different with the team Reese moves to next season. I don't know if we would have seen all that Engstler was capable of had she stayed at Syracuse.

Walz had pretty good success with another Angel. Wouldn’t surprise me if Reese ended up there.

Let’s agree to disagree as the 1st 3 years of Emily were not what this past year was. She’s a nice player but I would take Reese everyday and twice on Sunday.

Agreed. I think most coaches in America would start a team with a 3rd year Reese over a 5th year Engstler. Their impact and versatility is close enough enough now, but Reese's ceiling is much higher.
