MD seeming like transfer U lately.

I wonder if any school/coach will ever give up (or cut back) on recruiting?
Cosches generally hate recruiting, and I’m sure it’s expensive.

An elite program can’t ignore HS elite, but maybe 2nd tier can?

Lately? Lately! Brenda basically invented the transfer portal. With the possible exception of Walz at Louisville, I can't think of anyone with more (mostly productive) inbound and outbound transfer activity than the Terps.
It's interesting: at some (early) point, Freese seems to have understood churn was going to be a constant and dealt with it. '
A look at the coaching depth charts shows two coaches with listed responsibilities for recruiting (coordinator and director) and her top assistant, Karen Blair, was well versed in recruiting when coming to the Terps as well. They seemingly research, target and move incisively.

The Terps haven't successfully recruited a major HS player since Angel Reese in 2020.

Hopes she's getting some big money because there's no way I'd trade 3/4th of a Stanford degree for an SMU one.
SMU aint terrible, but it's no Stanford.

for a little bitty school, SMU has a lot of money, just look at the financial penalty they accept for joining the ACC.

Love your position in spirit, but in this case, she didn't have a choice. She's been on scholly four years and is graduating, and our team's rule is they only offer a 5th year if they can't fill all their spots - this time they could, so there wasn't one for her to come back for.

I really like this move for her and I think Barnes will rely on her experience to give her a lot of good playing time.

Thank you for the clarification. She was listed as a junior. My bad!

This is kind of ironic. Barnes couldn't keep any of her players at Arizona, but now all of her players are following her to SMU?

I'm not surprised she's getting transfers to follow her; probably more NIL.

But, it's so fast for non-Arizona transfers. Has she even been introduced formally as SMU's new coach. These transfers visit SMU yet? Or, are these players who were going to transfer to Arizona to join her before she bolted?

I think Rick Pitino or someone on the men's side said they don't even recruit HS players now.

Possible but I would guess it’s very very hard to graduate in 3 years from Stanford
I’d actually guess the opposite since admissions are tougher, so players are all strong academically and likely have some AP credits from high school when they enroll.

Maybe it's changed, but in my day the top schools didn't take AP credits.

I think it's easier to reload if you use the transfer portal wisely. The UConn's and the South Carolina's will always get the elite high school players. The rest of the top school will have to do a combination of both. Brenda and the Terps are one of many schools to figure this out.

Didn't expect that. I was surprised she left Indiana
