No shocker here. She's an Indiana girl. I was surprised about her choice of Alabama. Of course, some of that was personal bias because she also had a Vandy offer. Good player but not sure how much of that giant whole on the Indiana roster she will fill. Certainly won't hurt.

I followed Kentucky this year. Silva really developed over the course of the season, and played well in SEC and NCAA tourneys, especially when Strack was in foul trouble.

I was surprised this move happened. Now at TCU assuming Prince not back, she will get a chance to be #1 big pairing with Miles.

Also she got a little pocket money, we guess.
Maybe, maybe not as she is an international student. Some schools have figured out ways to provide compensation without violating a student's visa status but not all.

Correct me if I'm confusing her with someone else -- From D.C.; committed to UCLA; de-committed and signed with Arizona. And, now headed to Ames, IA ? Strange.
And she chose ISU over Iowa. Will be interesting to see how she fits in with Fennelly's system.

At this point, Teri Moren could use a player like this....a local kid who had a solid HS and AAU career.
Always wondered about the Alabama choice, primarily because she had some seasoned players in front of her.
Hope it works out. Like you, my alma mater was once checking Spreen out, but the mutual interest waned.
(That said, ND could use just about any good news now.)

From DMV, wanted to visit the wild west.

The 'secret' on an International is that they can be paid in their home country for NIL work that takes place in their home country.

So imagine say LSU participates in a college fair in Australia, and Last Tear Poa appears on video and print materials for the LSU booth, and even shows up to sign autographs, meet & greet etc. The booster program could legally pay her for this service.

Yes and no. I've heard through some friends with kids in the NCAA it's getting a bit easier but it still isn't an exact science.

True, if you are a cynic like me, but the rare positive cynic:D,

... boosters can also make the desired payment to an International...and then just attach the 'out of country' NIL contract as the supporting documentation.

If goal is simply to allow a payment, an International trip and work never really have to happen.

This is why NIL is so hard to regulate and supervise; the proposed NIL clearing house will have difficulty determining what the correct market value is for NIL services, as they can legitimately be all over the place...and to check if contracted services are ever actually rendered.

Yeah, I think she's legit good and will thrive with more playing time. Better than her stats. But I was wondering if there has been any movement or changes with nil for international students. Like is she or Garzon really not going to get paid but Olivia Miles will make 700 thousand. Doesn't make much sense.
Student visas don't allow for employment. That said, where there's a will there's a way. What if…he said, hypothetically, she were contracted to shoot commercials for a sports footwear company while back home em Portugal for the summer?
No U.S.A. employment involved in getting photographed or filmed wearing a certain firm's gear while walking around in beautiful Lisboa.

The example you've provided is allowed. This is a common practice. I remember when Aaliyah Edwards and Zach Edey of Purdue had their homecoming games, they were able to sell merchandise at the events.

FYI - Garzon is from Israel, not Portugal.

The “she” jdote33 mentioned is Clara Silva, from Portugal. My comment could apply to either. Just change the city and country name.

Interesting move from North Dakota's program to Baylor. Don't know much about her as she's from British Columbia. What I do recall was that she had potential, but couldn't crack the Canada Basketball rosters for FIBA competition.

Another intra-ACC transfer....

No surprise here (about her staying in the conference). I predicted earlier this season that Hinds and perhaps her teammate would bolt Wake and end up playing for other ACC teams. Let's see if Cowles (who just hopped in the portal) does so as well.

MD seeming like transfer U lately.

I wonder if any school/coach will ever give up (or cut back) on recruiting?
Cosches generally hate recruiting, and I’m sure it’s expensive.

An elite program can’t ignore HS elite, but maybe 2nd tier can?

Lately? Lately! Brenda basically invented the transfer portal. With the possible exception of Walz at Louisville, I can't think of anyone with more (mostly productive) inbound and outbound transfer activity than the Terps.
It's interesting: at some (early) point, Freese seems to have understood churn was going to be a constant and dealt with it. '
A look at the coaching depth charts shows two coaches with listed responsibilities for recruiting (coordinator and director) and her top assistant, Karen Blair, was well versed in recruiting when coming to the Terps as well. They seemingly research, target and move incisively.

The Terps haven't successfully recruited a major HS player since Angel Reese in 2020.

Hopes she's getting some big money because there's no way I'd trade 3/4th of a Stanford degree for an SMU one.
SMU aint terrible, but it's no Stanford.

for a little bitty school, SMU has a lot of money, just look at the financial penalty they accept for joining the ACC.
