Except for your comment that the new UConn one is nice, I agree with all of this.
I think UConn is basically stuck with this for a year of so. It is already incorporated in next season's uniforms and such. But I also suspect that it will see little acceptance and will ultimately end up like several other lousy logos...it will quietly be shelved in a relatively short time. The forward looking Eagle-Duck that BC had comes to mind. They quietly shelved it for the flying eagle after a couple of years. the other possiblity is that the Husky fades into oblivion to be replaced by UCONN on virtually everything. Pitt did this with the panther, You never see the UCLA Bruin or the Michigan wolverine. In this case, unlike UCLA or Pitt, it is a way to get rid of a logo nobody particularly likes without admitting you screwed up. I think that's the modus operandi of the current administration. They are doing good things on the academic front,and they want UCONN to be the name that's recognized there, but they are almost entirely clueless when it comes to athletics.
