My son says "It's okay but it needs a block C on the sides."

Not a big fan of the blue which those tweets show. Like the white better.

As long as the opposing team only sees the back of the helmet as we are racing to the end zone then I'm cool with the new look. But I have to agree, the front looks amateurish at best. Color me old fashioned if you like but there is something to be said for tradition and what's on the front of that helmet has nothing to do with UConn tradition. It isn't intimidating at all. A national flag solid blue(non glossy) helmet with a smaller UCONN logo on the back and just two husky light blue peering eyes in the front would have been moving in the intimidating direction.

That would leave room on each side of the helmet for small paw shaped decals for each touchdown scored, interception caught, QB sack, ect, in the Ohio St Buckeye tradition.

Looking at these comments about the helmets, I don't think UConn is Nike's newest experiment gone wrong. I personally like the new look and a lot of my friends do as well, so it seems like a small crowd feels the way you do.

They are unique, interesting and will garner attention. I can't go so far as to say that they are truly aesthetically pleasing, but who cares? We need attention. We need buzz. We need to be instantly recognizable while on TV. We need to be cool for recruits. In every one of those ways, these helmets beat the Block C helment. Hell, people are tweeting about the helmets, normally it's a cause for celebration if anyone even remembers that we play FBS football. Desperate times folks....these were called for.
 
Big fan of the back, the front I'm still undecided on. I don't like how it just cuts off the sides of the face. But, there's one thing that I think would be really cool, and the reason I HOPE that the face is cut off on the sides is that we will institute a helmet sticker program - every sick play you make garners a dog bone helmet sticker to fit on the sides of the helmet, filling in all that blank space over the season, a la Ohio State and their Buckeye leaf stickers, etc. I'm no photoshop master, so perhaps someone that is bored out of their mind can take a helmet image, craft a few dog bone stickers and digitally render this.

What freescooter was wrong? WOW. This is only the 15,678th time this year on the boneyard.
 
the problem with trying ot appeal to 18 year old kids with this design stuff is that it gets you buzz for about 30 seconds, until the next Oregon helmet or the next Maryland helmet comes along. And sorry but this design is totally lame. Nike had this helmet so they needed us to adopt a totally new logo first. Unbelievable. And you find a few comments from the one string in the twittersphere, that are actually kind of mixed if you read all of them, and that says everyone loves the new look. This athletic department is going to need to clean house pretty soon, I think and bring in somebody who gets that this stuff is both damaging and wastesful. Or go back to playing essentially 1AA football and Yankee conference basketball. Might be forced their anyway if the proposed super-division is enacted and they start paying players a salary under the guise of a stipend. And the idea that it will be limited to football is just silly. Basketball and baseball will liley be included soon if they aren't at the outset. Then it won't matter what our uniforms look like or what our logo looks like. Playing UNH in front of 8500 people not that many will care that we're wearing clown costumes.

Right. We should be targetting old drama queens who will refuse to go to games if they don't get their way.

The helmet is clearly an attempt to create a big-time feel. But the "UCONN HUSKIES" decals on the back is taking it just a bit too far.

But as they say, if the kids like them....

I just hope they never dress like Justin Bieber.

White helmet with the all white uni and the blue jersey white pants I can see. I can't see how the white helmet will look good with the all blue uni. A blue helmet with the new look and you lose alot of the detail of the Husky as well as the tapered stripe towards the back. Maybe we roll out the block C for the blue helmet and special home games? Or maybe we stop going with all blue unis.

I have a feeling that the blue helmets will go with the all blue uni, which will be the "special" uni that we only see once or twice this year.

just my gut feeling.
 
With those helmets I can see each sack being followed by the whole defense eating the QB in one ravenous pig pile..

Totally agree. Just wish they stayed with old helmets and then maybe a white helmet with a blue Block C for special occasions. These new helmets, especially the white ones are bad.
