I like this guy Dan posted by @SwingDog in the Moving UConn thread. His main point is hiring a big-time coach. He was saying just yesterday I believe we have to ante up and pay Mora but I don't think it's all about the Benjamins with Jim

That sounds like Penn State's Terry Smith to me. A Northeast guy who can recruit. He can bring some players with him too. Even lesser Penn State players are likely better than most of our players and recruits.

Need the portal. You need to know how a player will perform against college age players.

This feels so Tom Bradley-ish... Only difference is we are in a little better position as a football program than back in 2011 when Edsall 1.0 ended

he's only a soph in the Ivy. everywhere else he's a redshirt freshman.

Ooooh my blood is boiling. Knew about the twitter pic and banner changing didn't know about this massive slap in the face. Absolute jackass, this feels almost worse than Edsall.

I would even support targeting a highly successful FCS head coach who embodies these qualities.

Terry Smith is not leaving Penn State. He either gets the full time job or stays on with the new staff

that doesn't bother me per se.... but its clear that the new game of football is high roster churn and recruiting along with a lot of technological and information support. The coach that can wrangle both wins.

My worry is a lower division coach won't be able to handle the churn and recruiting and then do the dance of information support.

According to a news report it appears that Brian Kelly must find a job in order to receive his 54 million buyout. Just sayin…

No idea if he is the right guy, or what he would cost, but a Kelly hire would get us to the top of a news cycle for sure. It would demonstrate that we are serious about football and maybe, just maybe he can bring some of the LSU 2nd or 3rd stringers with him for a year.

College football is not for the faint of heart and we need to act accordingly and capitalize on the limited success we have recently achieved.

I’m not in favor of this, but I’d quickly change course and be pumped if we did hire him. We’d win games and we’d be a better team than we were under Mora. Kelly just isn’t likable. I’m not sure that’s the image you want when you are trying to play the underdog, America’s Team type of program, like a Boise State.

I agree that Kelly is not likable. The game has changed and we can be nice guys again AFTER we land a conference spot.
 
If we were to go after Brian Kelly I would hold my nose and hope for the best.

If the language is standard on the buyout of his LSU contract, whatever his next salary is for the mist part won't be too important to him as it will only offset what he is due in the buyout. The only issue would be that it would need to be viewed as reasonable (if he took a job for $75k a year LSU would immediately challenge it).

Get a damn grip. Good lord.

UConn football is a stepping stone for head coaches at this point in time and will continue to be for a very long time. Jim Mora resurrected us from the dead and deserves a statue. Literally saved our program as the movement to drop to FCS or get rid of it altogether started to gain some traction.

Our next coach has one goal: keep us nationally relevant/competitive so we can get into a P4 conference. That’s it. We aren’t going get a coach who stays here for forever like our basketball coaches. Nor should we want that until we are in a P4. We want a coach who wants to work their ass off for 3-4 years keeping UConn Football on this trajectory to get a better job.

Are you forgetting that Mora, two years ago, acted as his own defensive coordinator & his specialty is as a defensive mind? How did UConn's offense turn out the last 2 years?
