My son’s car is a 2008 Honda Civic. For those who don’t know Honda had massive paint defects that year but did not inform the owners. They were required to fix it if you called them about but my son never realized it.
Anyway who in central Ct. or Bristol, Plainville Torrington or wherever can paint this car cheaply? has 85,000 miles on it. Can I get it done for $1500? Maaco in Manchester quoted $2400. Unacceptable.

Just call 3 or 4 places. You'll get a sense for the typical cost. You aren't going to get a decent paint job from the bozos on the yard
I’ve actually gotten some good tips from these “bozos” in the past. Great plumber and electricians. People have a lot of connections here in case you haven’t noticed.

I got a quote to repair a dime sized piece of rust in my quarter panel and a respray for half the car so it would be blended. It was $2800 on a family and friends discount

Paint is not cheap. The prep work is a ton of labor.

Where’s Earl Scheib when you need him?

Have you looked into “wrapping” the car? Supposedly a cheaper alternative to paint, but not sure what the prices run. Googling shows wrap shops in Bristol, New Britain and Newington.

Wrapping isn't any cheaper from what I've seen. Seen itnamywhere from 2-5k

Why bother painting an ‘08 honda with 85k on it?

Might be cheaper to wallpaper it.

Probably because it has another 120,000+ miles left in it.
Yeah so what it’s not a classic car, run it as it sits.

200k isn’t a lot of miles. You make it seem like that some milestone. I’ve got Land Cruisers that have that 300k+ as well as mid-80’s Dodge trucks with 200k. Maintain stuff and it’ll run forever. There is no secret. Goodness my 01 750il has 150k on it. I have 9 cars from 2022-1966 and family in the salvage business so i have some expense reference points. Unless its a classic where aesthetics matter, save your money.

I’d not paint a car that is unlikely to appreciate, but some of the people on here make interesting financial decisions. But whatever works for folks works for folks.

Between this thread and the "I'm looking for a good used car for my daughter in the $3k-$5k price range" makes me wonder how much people get out and about any more.

Yes, you can get a 17-year old Honda Civic painted cheap. Go to Ace Hardware and get 10 cans of their house brand spray paint. It will work and it will be cheap.

Anything done by anyone carrying an actual business license is going to cost probably as much as the car is worth.

I would take that result in a second but it’s too much work. One thing, my son’s car is on the street in Brooklyn and not a target for break in as it looks now but he’s not liking driving a car that looks like it is about to be crushed in a junkyard so he is split on this a bit.

Paint is either functional or aesthetic. Functional paint will be cheaper and do the job of protecting underlying layers from corrosion and rust. That is affordable. It will look like crap, but it will work.

I just got rid of my 2008 Honda civic with 242,000 miles on it. I drive cars till they die.
Same with my 2008 Pilot (230,000 miles). The only reason I got rid of it was because it needed work to pass emissions and registration was coming due.

I am not sure the newer Hondas have same level of quality. I have a 2014 Pilot. Nothing major but a lot of small issues, mostly cosmetic and/or aesthetic.

It doesn't make any sense to spend what the car is worth on paint it and then street park it where it's just going to get dinged up anyway.

My car couldn't pass emissions so I just didn't register for a few years. Just don't get pulled over lol

I hear you, but I think that's the choice. Either do the labor yourself or pay someone else to do it. I also believe that a wrap will be more vulnerable to the little things that you typically get in the city, but, on the other hand, it's relatively easy to peel and redo if it gets looking scruffy a few years down the road.

Brush will be cheaper.
