Hornbuckle was not a PG, much more of a 2 guard. But yes she was very good. Bobbitt was the point guard on that team and was good too for a couple of years in her role, but she had a team mate named Parker.

depends on who you ask...Parker wasnt all that!

In a blowout, research has shown the officiating is more even than when the game is close and the home team needs some help.

what research? 'cause I guess that means UConn will win v. ND in Feb?

I would be very interested in that research also. Got a link?

I guess, now that I look at the numbers, it has been 15 years. TN has had other PGs (though not in the last 4 years), but if you want to spin the story of lack of success at the position, have at it.

(on Edit) and yes, Michelle transferred to TN and developed into a very fine player. It happens. It's not all bad there.

You call it spin, I call it a realistic look at the track record. Let's take a look as far back as I can recall:

1995-96 - Marciniak. Very good but she transferred from ND. I don't see a lot of TN development there.

1997-99 - Kelly Jolly. A very solid but unspectacular player who teamed with Holdsclaw and company for 2 NCs in those years. IMO she is the only PG who developed a lot at TN. Also IMO that development was more due to Jolly's makeup than the coaching at TN. Jolly is now succeeding as HC at NC State.

2000-01 (approx) - Ace Clement. Very highly regarded out of HS but did not develop at all at TN. Maybe even regressed.

2002-04 (approx) - Kara Lawson. Really more of a 2 guard but filled in ok. She was similar to Jolly IMO.

2007-08 - Bobbitt. Juco transfer. Came to TN with a lot of experience and swagger, exactly what was needed there to team with Parker, Hornbuckle etc. I don't see much TN development in her case.

2009-11 - A void, other than Bass who is simply not a PG who can compete at this level, and obviously has not developed. Probably hurt Stricklen's development as an overall player by having her play PG.

2012 - whenever. Massengale. Obviously to be determined.

So, as I see it, that's not much of a track record.

there's a few... actually a lot who says he prepares his players to give 100%. They dont care about his character as a person. They dont knock his coaching ability

Geno is the best...hands down. I read the comment about Geno as saying that a Geno-coached team would never look as bad as Tenn did. I wonder how long it will take until the UT fans are wanting to see Pat step down. They love Pat but they also love to win. Pat does not look engaged at all. And that is sad to see. I kind of miss "the stare."

I do not think that Massengale will develop into an All American PG. I am not saying that she will not be a steady PG, but Sims and Diggins both performed at a much higher level in their freshman campaigns. I just don't think she has the size and speed that is needed. And for what I saw of Jefferson, she would run circles around Massengale and possibly everybody else in college, as long as she is the type of player who can play under control. I'm sure that Simmons' highlight film looked pretty spectacular based on her speed but she is just a turnover and a missed shot waiting to happen.

Has any team had consecutive wins over both Tennessee and UCONN like ND has? If they have it was years and years ago. Baylor has two consecutive over Tennessee and one against UCONN, so they could accomplish that feat, not saying that they will.

I think that the wins over UCONN and Tennessee have instilled a confidence in ND that they have never had before. Confidence is such a big factor. That is why Baylor's win over UCONN was so big. It told the players that they belong and are a legitimate contender.

ND shot 68% in the second half. Layup drill as TN was constantly turning it over leading to no transition defense and ND runouts. That box score says TN had only 19 turnovers... I think the real number was much higher.

-Finally, a Boneyard topic I am familiar with.

-Yes, unless I am mistaken, it was the central question in this 1996 Case Study ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-slmjwxwqY ). Proof? Subjective? This work beckons we ask within ourselves if officiating deteriorates (at 1:49) when even just one female threatens to take over the game.

In the past I have seen many teams leading TN at the 10 minute mark or so by some good numbers and they ease up, letting TN back into the game. these were frustrating games for me to watch. ND has lost a number of times to TN, and I am not saying that they are one of the above. There will be no letting up here. ND wants to finish this big and they do not want to TN back in.
Found an article that suggests there may be another reason Muffet left her starters in:

Call it motivation. Incentive. Bulletin board material. Maybe, a little inadvertent trash talk.

How 'bout like waving a big orange cape in front of a cranky bull.

Whatever the case, a brief item on the cover of theTennessee women's basketball media notes caught the attention of the Notre Dame players and coach Muffet McGraw before Monday night's game.

It read: "Tennessee won 20 consecutive over Notre Dame before the luck of the Irish prevailed in the Elite Eight game in Dayton, Ohio, last March."

They weren't consecutive, but they were in the same season. That hasn't happened since...last year, when ND did it.
