If they have two players that are COVID related how in the heck did they get to play. UConn had to sit out for 14 days and NONE of the players or coaches were COVID related.
Don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that their university and conference protocols (interpretations) perhaps are vastly different than UConn's protocols, allowing them to play in spite of players quarantining.
It would interesting to get the complete story here. The coaches have no say in whether a player plays or not when they have contracted the COVID-19 virus. School/team doctors have the first and last word on all COVID related matters/issues. As other posters have already commented here, once a team member tests positive, the entire team has to quarantine during the 14 day incubation period to insure no one else is infected and or is carrying the virus.
I would imagine that if one or more players tested positive at any time leading up to this week, the team would have had to quarantine for 14 days. UConn having to sit out for 14 days was bad luck and bad timing. If it had to happen, it would have been better if the incident had happened at the beginning of the month. They would be playing tomorrow.
My question is IF........ a UConn player tests positive, will the rest of the team be allowed to play while that player quarantines alone, or do we do the "mass quarantine" thing again?
No team in WCBB can afford to do one or more 14 day quarantines once league play begins. It would be very difficult to make those games up , especially if the quarantine is late in the season. They would have to forfeit those games, and fall like a rock in the conference standings. Inquiring minds want to know.
