The Charlotte experiment for SoCarolina was a big failure.
2 day average of 1890 is the lowest in the 5 years since I've been tracking attendance

Oregon St. sounded loud on TV but that number is a little disappointing. Hopefully it will be closer to a sellout Monday night. Oregon too, while they are #6 on the list that's about half as many fans as they drew when they hosted Oregon St. in the regular season. Also almost 9,000 when Mississippi St. came to visit during OOC.

It was dismal, but it was a win for my home city hosting the men’s tournament. I am sick of people talking about Zion, though. I know a lot of our fans decided to go to the Duke MBB game.

I dont blame them
I support both men’s and women’s sports, but women work just as hard and it hurts me when they have to play second fiddle.

BTW, I’ll be in GSO for the Regional Semi, but can’t be there Monday for the final. I’ll believe we’re beating Baylor until something happens otherwise.

Anyone have reasons for the CT attendance being so low? Hard to believe the fans are staying away in droves for the best program in women's basketball history.

What do you think about staggering the seasons and having the NCAA WBB Tournament start after the men’s is over? The season could start in January or with holiday tournaments.

Some complacency. Some frustration with a team that doesnt play as beautifully as previous teams have. And schedule times. With a huge portion of the fanbase 30-90 minutes away, 6:30 on a Friday is not easy. And 7pm on Sunday pushes things kinda late.

2 day average:
2015 = 3576
2016 = 5050
2017 = 6972
2018 = 7556
2019 = 5275

It was about 1/2" from ending today. Duke got very, very lucky at the end.

Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

I didn't watch, but sounds like the typical Dukies being aided by the refs in crunch time business.

:rolleyes: UCF got calls as well.... All depends on who you were rooting for on how you viewed the calls.

I think the Oregon attendance would have been somewhat higher had the NCAA assigned the men's second round tournament game a start time only 40 minutes after the one in Eugene.

Good to see UConn attendance pick up for the 2nd round. Surprised by SC’s weak attendance numbers. I know they had to play in Charlotte, but Columbia to Charlotte is an easy 90 minute drive on a Sunday morning.

Too bad Iowa won't be hosting for awhile because the NCAA would love to have them as a top 16 seed every year.

Better crowd in Storrs, but still disappointing. The crowds looked and sounded bigger than the reported numbers. Whatever happened to the constant 10,167?

South Carolina played "at home," but that was in Charlotte, about 80-100 miles away. They draw much better in Colonial Life Arena.

1st Round

NCSt 2769

There has been some discussion on the NC State boards about attendance. The men's team is still alive in the NIT...and also playing in Reynolds Coliseum, and some people believe that the over-abundance of basketball forces those with families to make a choice on which team to support due to limited finances available. It doesn't seem to be an issue at other schools, but seems to be one at NC State.

Support for the men's team has always been rabid, even during down years. The Wolfpack Women have always struggled to get butts in the seats, although there have been some sellouts and near sellouts. It was that way even when I was in college, Kay Yow was on the sidelines and NC State was a regular fixture in the top 15.

Our low attendance Saturday may be because our opponent was Maine, a team we beat by 38 points in December. I will be very disappointed if attendance isn't near a sellout tonight, given that a Sweet 16 berth is at stake.
