This may be sacrilege- Booker for Azzi. Why did I just say that? Count to 10 before hitting return.
 
I feel for Kiki Rice, who all the advanced metrics clearly have as UCLA's best player yet Lauren Betts is getting all the publicity.

This award is for Sarah to lose as any and every analytical score has her as the clear #1. Hannah Hidalgo is the #2 across HerHoopStat, Bart Torvik, BPM, PER....

Now whether these pundits actually use analytics is another question. Sarah is only a sophomore so if they choose Azzi, I would not be upset. I would eventually get over my angst if Blakes wins the award. Betts? Not...so....much...
 
I'm sitting here saying who is that Sarah. I don't see Sarah in that half shot. Yeah, I know. Who else would it be dummy!
 
I think Hidalgo should be nominated for player of the year. I think she will win defensive player of the year though. So, maybe that can be a consolation prize?

Sarah strong will likely win national player of the year.

And I think Shea Ralph will win national head coach of the year.

So pleased to see Azzi on this list. It’s more validation for her decision to stay another year. I think it’s between Strong and Blakes, but to be top 4 is an accomplishment.

On edit to add: I’m not sure Strong will win DPOY. Her defense relies on quiet, sneaky play rather than the more in your face obvious defense.

As an aside, how often do guards win DPOY?
 
So here’s my question. Does being a nominee for NDPOY enhance your chances for NPOY? You would think so.

Both Betts and Sarah are listed on both. While I don’t think Sarah will win NDPOY, I would be very surprised if she doesn’t win NPOY.

Paige did not win the Wade Trophy as a freshman, because freshmen were not eligible. NaLyssa Smith won that award, the only NPOY that Paige did not win. Subsequently, the WBCA changed the eligibility to include freshmen, and Paige did win the Wade Trophy last year.
