Mullins Projected Draft Projection | The Boneyard

Mullins Projected Draft Projection

I hope he goes this high. Love to see our players get to the next level and have great careers. Great kid who will ever be immortalized in Husky lore with "The Shot 2.0."

When you have a chance at good money you have to take it. So, I do not question anyone's decision about leaving early. But the landscape has changed. NIL changes everything. You still can make money at the college level. College is more manageable than the NBA life with potential to earn a decent fraction of NBA earnings ... not saying competing ... but decent money. I just look at history, very recent history. Wasn't Liam expected to go 13 - 15th? He did make it in the first round with the last pick, but now he's buried on a bench with Hornets.

He's not developing. If Liam is stuck in Charlotte, he's no better than a rotational player with limited minutes. If your goal is to make it to the NBA, make money, and barely play - then that's their decision.

Mullins needs some bulk and more development to be a "every day" NBA player. He'll be on a roster - maybe in 5 years he'll get this every day chance - but that's the foreseeable future for Mullins - limited minute player.

Liam is getting around 3.55m to play in front of 500 people in the G-league. He prolly could have made that or close to it at UCONN. These kids have a lot more to think about now than just money.
Like what? Says the fan who doesn’t have to worry about turning down 15 mil guaranteed. He really owes it to all of us to stay because we are certain his life will be better.

WTF are you talking about? i never said anything about owing anything to any fans esp myself. He was going to get paid either way is the point

College life is also pretty cool for a 19 yo., forgetting about the finances and future in the NBA.
I think it may end up being a life style decision.

If he has found a comfort zone at Uconn the NIL will offset some of the NBA money. Maybe he will want to enjoy another year at Uconn and people his own age instead of men that are older than him, many of whom have families and kids thus different interest.

You literally said these kids have more to think about than money. Like what? I am asking. Clearly you know whats better for Braylon than his family does. So tell us.

Easy to turn down the current offer from the couch - but I agree 100%. He was physically overmatched at a college level. While he showed athleticism it was equal (at best) not superior to college athletes. His defense also needs work and Dan Hurley and Kimani are strong at teaching those skills.

A little patience could be greatly rewarded and barring some freak occurrence the current offer will still be there in a year.

But he has a solid group of people around him and know the situation better than I.

I never said what was best for Braylon and or his family—The fact that you turned “they have more to think about” into “I know what’s best for Braylon” is honestly impressive
I said when money is going to be close or similar, there’s more to weigh. Not that complicated, that’s not me deciding his life, that’s basic logic.

Wish the kid the best no matter what he chooses to do. Love to see him back but with the world of “potential” being the NBA draft if there’s money there why take a chance? He would have a wonderful Soph year if he chooses after a little prep in the gym and damn that would be fun to see. But he and his family will get it right!

Fair. I look at G League and think AAU for adults. The few games I’ve watched looks a lot like too many players trying to make themselves look good. Many are young people w no concept of money influencing others w no concept of money. I would think there would be a more steady positive support from Dan Hurley and company than G League. Another year at Uconn does offer stability and more importantly potential leadership opportunities helping you on and off court.

So this mock draft has him at #29 and the one Adam Finkelstein did for CBS Sports has him at #30. If this is really where he's projected he can talk to McNeeley and get some feedback about what went into his decision and whether he would make the same decision.

He could have a bad sophomore season or have a catastrophic injury if he returns. That is also part of the conversation. If he comes back he will pay a heavy insurance premium.

He will obviously test and see what scouts have for him, but I think I’m 60/40 on him coming back at this point. 33% was a rough number for him as a shooter archetype.

He has some things he can improve, and that could be accomplished while remaining on a college roster. It depends on how much an NBA franchise wants him.

He's getting over $1 million in NIL. He can afford the insurance.

I thought since we signed him he would be one and done but that has changed. His injury lingered which hurt his athleticism and he went into a major three point shooting slump. It's a stacked draft and Braylon and his parents love everything about Hurley and UConn.

Good points. The question is- can you develop (or be developed) in the G League as well as you can by Danny and his staff. I honestly don't know the answer. Obv playing in college games is more exciting than the adult aau circuit, but if the money is greater and you can make a case that development is on par, many people will choose that route.

Of course money used to make it a very clear cut decision. It no longer does.

I think Braylon would be best served returning for another season. He needs an offseason in the weight room and to fully develop his game. Next year he could be a featured part of the offense and spend another year learning from the coaching staff. McNeeley was more physically ready than Braylon and we know how that turned out.
