I'm looming forward to seeing Lloyd play next season. She is going to be some kind of good.

Nothing wrong with not wanting to coach against a friend. Surely Geno cannot enjoy beating former UCONN players by 50+ points.

And we thought she and Geno were friends... maybe not so much anymore.

She had no choice when ND was a member of the BE. I assume the comment relates of OOC games.

Muffet is kinda politically splitting hairs in her comments about Maggie Lucas. After referring to Lucas as perhaps the best shooter in the country, she says: "We probably haven't seen a guard like her in a while. We've seen some really good players in the Big East, but we haven't seen a player like her."

Well, if you strictly classify KML as a forward, and strictly classify Lucas as a guard, and all your subsequent comments are predicated on referencing only guards, I suppose the comments are fair. Otherwise, MM's got a short memory.

Quoting Coach McGraw:

1. "Maggie Lucas might be the best shooter in the country."

2. "We've seen some reaaly good players in the Big East but we haven't seen a plaer like her."

My thoughts:

1. She might be the best shooter. But, then again, she might not be. My money goes on Kaleena.

2. You haven't seen a player in the Big East like Lucas? Muffett, yes you have. Get out that film of your semi-final game with UConn to refresh your memory.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis is without question the best shooter in women's college basketball. Didn't Breanna Stewart put up twenty-nine on Notre Dame in the semi finals. Bet ND hasn't seen a player like her. Muffet's statements are ludicrous. I'm sorry that America's darling never won a championship. Not really.

Muffet's apparently mediocre former conference mates had no problem limiting Maggie Lucas...twice.

This article makes her sound daft. "I don't want to coach against my friend"??? Give me a break. You should want to play good teams, no matter who is coaching them. They're headed to a conference filled with soft teams- she should want to play as many quality teams OOC as she can get.

Reading between the lines what Muffett is really saying is "We will miss kicking the crap out of our former in-state rival". For the record, ND has defeated Purdue the last seven years, encompassing Sharon Versyp's entire stint at PU, by an average margin of 18 points. What Muffet didn't say was, "We welcome a quality road opponent that will also serve as a homecoming game of sorts for two of our players, Kayla McBride (Erie, PA) and Madison Cable (Mt. Lebanon, PA), and provide us a chance to return to an area that we have had some good success in recruiting over the years (also see Charel Allen)."

All I can say is "Waaaaaaaa". Come on Muffet - grow a pair. Oh, and KML IS the best shooter in the country. Maggie is a terrific shooter, but KML is simply better. There's really not a single numerical statistic that supports Maggie as being better.

46.2% vs. 49.2% on 3 point FG's
44.0% vs. 52.8% on overall FG%

Again, no offense to Maggie who is a terrific player and averaged more PPG than KML did, but she's simply not a better shooter...

She may not find it find it so easy to get open looks without SD there. I'd expect her to be a little less productive next year against quality opponents.

Good point. I think Alicia Ratay may have been an even better shooter than Maggie Lucas, but after the core of the 2001 team left, she got fewer good looks.

But I think Loyd is a star, close to Skylar's level. I look for her to be more aggressive and become a leader. Her scoring will increase, because her shot volume will increase. I think even moreso after McBride leaves.

Are you kidding? Have you seen the Loyd can elevate on her jump shots? Loyd doesn't need Diggins to get open looks...all she needs is a good solid screen. Now the alley-oops between Diggins & Loyd required a special connection...not sure how fast Loyd will gel with ND's new PG. Plus Loyd regularly gets a few baskets from offensive put backs...have I mentioned how quick she can elevate? If I could put any player from ND on UConn's roster, Loyd would be the one.

Hey , cool it guys !! Give the lady a break.........MM is still a little woozy from the BIG EASY , BIG Stage beating she and her team took in the semi's. It's called being concussed. Medical experts are working on preventions as we speak. Concussions have been known to wipe out some short-term and/or long-term memory. Sharp-shooting by KML and Stewie simply didn't happen to a concussed victim. That semi-final game beating in The Big Easy obviously has been forgotten........ This is a clear case of being concussed.

Maggie was, also, much more the focus of defenses than was possible against KML because of UCONN's balance.

I take it you are speaking from your personal concussion experiences based on the 2011 & 2012 Final Fours...just shut up already and act like you have won a NC before!

That's not giving much credit to KML. There's not a team out there that didn't put their best perimeter defender on KML when we played them. I'm sure she got the same treatment as Maggie did. Now if you are saying Maggie was constantly double and triple teamed out beyond the 3 point line, I can't speak to that since I never really saw PSU play. But if you are saying teams "defended" Maggie harder than KML, I just don't agree with that.

I had no idea cats ate grapes, let alone sour ones.

Sounds like this was directed at me. In regard to HGN's post, I would just prefer that opposing fans dislike UConn because we have a great team, not because our fans act like conceited s (see "The Summitt").

I don't know about Maggie, but I do remember Vivian saying a few years ago to the fan club - who asked some question about defense against UConn (in one of your really good years) - that the problem was you simply could not concentrate on one player, because there was someone else just as potent available. I suspect Ice is saying that one of the strategies that teams attempted against Penn State is to try to shut down Lucas and hope the rest of the team can't beat you, and that folks were unable to shut Lucas down. It DOES NOT make Lucas a better shooter or player, because KML was not in a comparable situation as often it is difficult to make a direct correlation in that way.

I'm good with letting people post what they want within the bounds of what the moderators find acceptable rather than telling people to just shut up already (even if that means people telling other people to just shut up already).
