MSST Little Rick

.-.
So far this season Miss State has played SE Missouri, Virginia, Lamar, Coppin State, Furman, Jackson State and Arkansas Little Rick. I get the Virginia game, but the Massey ratings for the rest of that murderer's row are 230, 255, 335, 168, 303 and 117. Does anyone ever ask Saint Vic what's the point of scheduling these teams?

How far in advance is a schedule set? Could he have changed this bum of the month club show? I am asking, because I do not know.

Why does that matter? These teams didn't just become awful.

Like I was really worried

Anyone ever ask Mulkey?

Some games, like home and homes, are set a year or two in advance, others can be set as late as a few months before the season begins. If games are to be televised, they’re usually set well before the season.

Thank you for the considerate response , Nan. Truly a moderate answer. :D

The only point right now for Vic is experimenting with lineups. He's used about 10 deep up to now, and even his bench players have vastly improved.... staple of a Vic Schaefer team. Even Bre'Amber Scott is 5-6 tonight for 13 points. Who dat, right?

Our season effectively begins in December with Texas, Oregon, and Marquette.

MSST 98 - 63, I agree scheduling so many mid majors is not conducive to exciting fans. I understand wanting to schedule tough games after your get some jelling of your players but 6 out of 7 mid majors seems too much. Hard to get any fan excitement which WBB desperately needs. Wish MSST schedule included more major schools but we should see in a December if this team is real.

If only Lin Dunn weren't coaching she'd have a thing or 2 to say about growing the game.

I'll reserve judgment on this team until I see them play their December schedule. I've learned a few things from watching them play these games though. There is legitimate 3 point shooting, and Howard was a huge get that cannot be underestimated. But they need to do better on free throws and turnovers. They are prone to get a bit sloppy at times. There is also a depth issue at PG with a big drop off from Holmes to Taylor.

People were definitely underestimating both in the preseason.

ATO seven games in
Holmes 34:6
Danberry 28:9
Taylor 27:18

MSUFAN, I agree the opposition was less than stellar but the MSU playing quality was stellar. This team has the capability to be great. what I have not seen is the ability to produce when thing get tough because so far no game has really challenged them. Responding under pressure will determine if this team is great and hopefully we get that question answered soon.

3pt shooting will be something I'll keep my eyes on throughout the year. Against mediocre mid majors, players typically get wide open looks and don't feel the stress/pressure to hit shots that they do in big games. Tennessee a couple of years ago looked like a great 3pt team playing chippies and then turned out to be dreadful from deep. So far it looks very promising for Mississippi State with AEH/Bibby both proving to be capable shooters, but how they perform against better defenses and in bigger moments will be telling.

I do think Holmes is one of the most underrated PGs in the nation...I'm guessing her A/TO ration doesn't drop much as the competition improves. She's filled in perfectly for Morgan William with her defense, smart play and pass first nature. I also wont be surprised if Danberry gets the PG minutes over Taylor in big games.

Sloppy is simply due to the way we play. Vic trained everyone to play fast, tight, smothering, aggressive defense. We sprint and run all over the floor, and try not to give up an inch. Don't expect that to change... you can even see it in Bre'Amber Scott... she's a product of what Vic has groomed.

You truly think there's a big dropoff from Holmes to Taylor? Taylor is averaging more points with less minutes. Jazz looks more experienced no doubt, and she's adjusted to the game already where Taylor hasn't yet. And I've seen her make a few less bad plays, but I don't think there's a huge dropoff.
