Let's not over think this people. It's Lobo, Taurasi, Moore and Stewart. Next question?
Without that 1st championship, who knows if Geno might not have moved on, Sue, Diana, might not have come, so Rebecca has to be on there.

The comparison between Rebecca and Tina is competitive only during their UConn careers.
If you compare pro careers, it's really no contest.
It's no contest in college career as well. Lobo took UConn to the top. Anyone who actually watched that first title game real time knows that Lobo was the rock. As great as Charles was for UConn, she never the top dog.

Voted for Lobo - how can you have Mt. Rushmore without George Washington, he might not be the best president but he was the first. Same goes for Lobo - it also means you have one from each era of greatness with no overlap. (Sue is one of my all time favorites, but with DT selected already, Lobo just seems more fitting. And with Maya already selected, the same goes for Tina.
If you ask Geno, he would say the first president was Kerry Bascom. I think she should be in the mix with Rebecca and Nykesha Sales.

In a heartbeat
That would be a dead heart. Not in a millennium, as it were. Shocking that you're serious.

BUT anyway, back to the UCONN Mt Rushmore, looks like Ms Lobo (Rushin, hmmm Rushin, Mt Rushmore guess it makes sense) in a pretty close one over Ms Bird.

So there you have it folks. Now all we need is a mountain, a sculptor and lots and lots of money.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're replacing Thomas Jefferson with LBJ?

If you apply today's value systems on the Thomas Jefferson era a point could be made to removed Jefferson in favor of LBJ who pushed many of the Kennedy Civil Rights bills to fruition. Of course you may then dismiss Jefferson's emphasis on public education when it wasn't available to the masses or the Constitution, or the overthrow of English rule. It amazes me how many fail to realize that the value systems of the USA rotated many times and evolved as conditions and morals changed. Our Founding Fathers should not be charged for failure to live up to todays morals/values. If Jefferson lived today he would have valued things differently.

Ha! Well, you’re right. And cleaning up well would generally not be a criterion for inclusion on a Mount Rushmore (unless it’s a Mount Rushmore of 6’4” smart, pretty Cubano-American women who played basketball well in the late 20th-century—then I’d say yeah).

But truth be told, I had stepped out of the thread for a moment (I’m prone to such insouciance) and my mindset was on adulating Lobo in general. Wally’s post piqued a memory of spending a good deal of time looking at the UCONN media guide last season. I was struck by how good Lobo’s numbers were in roughly a full season’s fewer games than, say, a Dolson. A lot of water has passed under the bridge in the past twenty years and a lot of great players have come and gone, but her stats still sparkle.

Plus, speaking of numbers, she’s got a few bucks in the bank. (Also not a criterion. ;)) Chick’s got some positives going on.

As many former Uconn greats Ms Lobo is so much more than just having played in a championship or played basketball. True with out WBB she wouldn't be known. I love Sue Bird she is almost my perfect everything, yet if it is the choice of Mt Rushmore (Uconn style) I'd have to go along with Ms Lobo.

Would Jefferson really make the top 4? I would easily replace him with FDR, LBJ, or Wilson. He probably deserves it more than TR.
I have to agree with TR NOW. At the time TR was big time stuff.
Wilson and FDR (great WW 2 leader) stuffed the Constitution into the dresser drawer and dictated (I chose that word carefully) what they believed the Country should be. Social Security, which I obtain benefits from, is a Roosevelt Ponzi scheme and with Johnsons addition of Medicare just assured few would pay for many at some point in the scheme. For the first 20 or 30 years of SS or more people collected hundreds of times more than they paid into the system. How do you stop a bad system without damning millions to starvation or the re-institution of Old ages homes or poor houses?? Thank you FDR, LBJ and Wilson (a Stauntion Va guy)

D, Maya and Stewie are givens. It's the fourth that gets a little dicier. Rebecca is certainly right there but so should be Kerry Bascom and Nykesha Sales. If you throw Sue, Tina and MoJeff in there then you need to include Svet, and Shea.

Just think---I reap the windfall of SS and Medicare and you'll get stuck with SS taxes mounting and mounting until some day the system breaks or --YOU get ---cheated out of your payments. Ponzi--FYI built a scheme where one guy got big payoffs because he go 10 guys to pay, they got 10 each, and they got 10 each. Works good until there aren't any more. And the payment to all stop.
Interesting about medicare---I pay thousands into my health plan and I have Medicare too. The government dictates that medicare is primary--which means they pay for everything and my Insurance (not medicare) skates along. Can't figure that one out!! So much about SS and medicare 99 out of a hundred don't know. This doesn't bother me because I'll get mine--it bothers me because young people will look back at this and think people my age DEMANDED this--we didn't.
I was raised believing FDR was the second coming and could do no wrong--because poor people wanted to believe. Don't lift the skirts of your hero's --you'll see ( if you look down) feet of clay. Johnson to balance the budget "borrowed" money from the SS fund and it's never been repaid.
It's not one way of looking at it---unless I put my head in the sand.

Shocked that Nykesha Sales is getting no respect. Look at her career numbers and no mention of her? Top 5 defensive player all time easily as well.

Nykesha makes it way before LBJ does!

Without freshman Nykesha lighting it up with all the first team AAs & NPOYs on the bench in foul trouble in the first half, we don't win the '95 NC.

Glad you agree with me. That girl was a incredible all around player. And sadly I was reading the posts and no mention of her.

Well when you're working on the top 4 all time and there are 8 NPOY's to compete for those 4 slots, someone without a NPOY on her resume....tough to compete at UCONN.

She was a two time first team all American. Top 3 defensive players off all time. Top 3 scoring all time. I really think Geno would rank Nykesha top 3 all time.

George Washington, he might not be the best president but he was the first.

Washington was the best President we ever had or ever will. There was no "handbook" on how to be President, so he had to use his instincts and "write the book" as he went along. He gave the United States credibility in the world just by how he handled himself and the affairs of the United States. At a time when people wished to make him King, he flatly refused such an idea. He kept us out of the French Revolution (rightly so) while there was great pressure to join them in their fight (Lafayette was like a son to him.)

Just because he was "First" doesn't mean a thing. He is the father of our country not because he was first. It was his actions as General and President that he is on Mount Rushmore.

Charles Lindbergh was the first to fly solo across the Atlantic, yet spoke in support of the Nazi government until the outbreak of WW2....doesn't make him a candidate for Mount Rushmore.....

FWIW........Kerry Bascom should be there......I know she never won a NC....but she did help start the program. If you were to ask Geno, Kerry would be there.....

No way. After Lobo left, those next UConn teams underachieved in the tournament. Not saying it's all her fault, she did hit that clutch three. But how can you give her the nod over others who ultimately got it done.

I don't know. Losing in OT to Tennessee is about where they should've finished. They lost to La Tech, Georgia, and that inexplicable loss to Syracuse. In the polls, after losing the first game, they bounced between 2 and 4.

'97. Ugh. Shea or no Shea (which, obviously, no Shea), they should've beat Tennessee.

'98. Nykesha was out in the tournament and Sveta had a broken bone in her foot.

And in '98, wasn't Shea lost for the year? (ACL)

Disagree. UConn should have won. They didn't respond to the challenge.

They obviously *could* have won. I seem to remember Carla Berube missing a few lay-ups in OT.

"Should" is a very, very strong word though. Tennessee was very, very good, too, of course.
