Most physical UConn player ever

Caroline Doty would be one of the first to throw a punch at an opposing player. She had that Philly attitude. I believe she had a tooth knocked out in a HS game and either put it back in place or gave it to the trainer and kept playing.

Though she combined physicality with athleticism and finesse, Gabby Williams wouldn’t knock players over, but she would rob them blind, jump over them, and run by them.

I think we have had only one player whose own father called her “a nasty piece of business.” On ice or the hardwood, Kia Nurse was a very physical player.

No one UConn WCBB player stands out to me as being "the most physical". If this is some sub-rosa reference to "chippy", there have been dozens of players who seemed to me to have been more than willing to get rough but knew there would be hell to pay with Geno and CD if they did so.

If, however, we're talking about using one's body to its best advantage, I think the newb Christyn Williams is becoming a candidate for the title. She uses her sturdiness to establish preposterous amounts of territory under the basket for someone who is 5'8". She knocks defenders aside like bowling pins when she drives. She keeps her body between the ball and the defender(s) on breakaways which usually keeps her from getting stuffed and often results in an "and one". It's perfectly clean basketball and I love it.

By the way, I read somewhere yesterday she sat out so much of the last game because she had (has?) a cold. I don't know if she's feeling better for today's game.

Bam Bam would get my vote! When she came into a game you just knew that an opposing player was going down.

Funny how UConn fans celebrate their physical players but other teams’ players are dirty or thugs

Too broad a criticism to make by a long shot (to mix a metaphor or two). Not all UConn fans celebrate thuggish play as your criticism states. Snarky too, as there is nothing "funny" about such hypocrisy, which DOES EXIST in SOME UConn fans.

Yeah and it helps that she’s 5’11” :D:D

I said UConn’s physical players. You’re the one that inferred that I meant dirty.

Here's your post: "Funny how UConn fans celebrate their physical players but other teams’ players are dirty or thugs". You say "dirty".

Not going to waste time arguing with you. You are simply misreading my post

Bad Mommy

You said “thugs”

I know I know —-“do as I say and not as I do”

Mel Thomas wasn't named 'linebacker' cause of her finesse! And Kelly Faris was not know for subtlety, either.

I thought it was pretty clear that HuskyNan was implying that if our players are considered physical, that's what other players should be considered as well, NOT if other players are considered dirty than ours should be considered dirty as well. Even if the sentence was ambiguous (not really), even on an anonymous web site people should know HuskyNan well enough to know which one she meant.

Surprised no one mentioned Gabby. She had to battle with 6'5" players and was successful at it. Same time, physically able to leap over Turner of ND... pretty physical.

If your name is BamBam who else would you allow to be picked!

I fondly remember my son, who is more a fan of the men's team screaming"put in BamBam" when some oomph was needed.

JJ, Shea, Bam Bam

2004 NCAA Bridgeport - Most Overt Physical Play - Ashley Valley - Fouled Auburn Guard Going For A Steal Knocked Her Thru Her Own Bench.

Gene subbed her in the 2nd half when he had enough of Auburn’s Dirty Play they were openly punching all our players in the 1st half...

Dirty play ended right there...

Heh heh...quite a legitimate list above. Hard to name a winner...but I smiled when you mentioned Ashley. :)

I think it's interesting that no one has mentioned Kara Wolters. I agree, she should have been tougher.

Comment in another thread got me thinking about this.

I would probably go with
1) Bam Bam
2) Tamika Williams
3) Shea (wouldnt normally put a G/W here, but ... Shea)
4) Ashja?
5) Willnett

?
And keep an eye on Megan Walker. She may well join that list one day.

My list: Jamelle, Wilnett, Ashja, Shea, and Barbara Turner. (And Rizzotti would have run right through you if it meant she could get to the ball.) Tina, like Stef and Hansmeyer, grew into (no pun) their physicality-- but they weren't always that physical.
