More trouble in ACC paradise?

lol at the thought of what the faculty wants being relevant
The Big Ten’s official name until 1987 was the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives until 1987. Remarkably, even today, each NCAA school (even the P4) has a faculty representative to the NCAA. I guess this will be the case until non students are allowed to compete for schools’ athletic teams. But unfortunately, the faculty voice, while once relevant, is becoming much less so, particularly in Division I. Go figure.

Academics have nothing to do with top level college athletics. Those athletic departments manage football and basketball programs that are professional sports franchises.

-> A “chunk of the latest increase stems from the roughly” $22M Florida State is spending to compensate athletes through revenue sharing. The Seminoles are also “planning to spend more money than ever” on football staffing, including the hiring of a new GM and several staffers in the scouting department. There also are “additional expenses coming up for maintenance across the department and Title IX improvements.” AD Michael Alford pointed out that FSU is in an “especially challenging position because of the relatively stagnant annual distributions” generated by the ACC. Alford explained to Trustees that his staff has “studied options such as cutting selected Olympic sports programs and reducing the budgets of sports across the board,” but he said that neither “seem to be prudent solutions.” <-

I wonder if @billybud is still with us.

Yes, because we hate them.

If they committed to the Big East in football, there would still be the original Big East. Instead they used us and we let them.

Now they're using the ACC and tensions are wearing thin

Of course the ACC should lobby for their full time member

Duck ND, make them go independent in all sports. Chit or get off the pot

Faculty can attend as long as they don't say too much . . . .

Never going to happen, ND brings too much value even as a partial member . . .

And yet they're pissed at the ACC for lobbying for Miami over them

ND only brings football to the table. If they want to keep their football money, nobody should allow themselves to be used for other sports

ND felt that the ACC went out of its way to only diss ND. Not Alabama, not BYU, not anyone else, just the school with 24 sports in the ACC and a five football game a year partner with that conference.

That was the gripe. Not that it promoted Miami, that it solely focused on ND.

Regardless of the above, the ACC fell all over themselves to get the partial ND deal. They are not going to do anything to try to kick ND out. Losing ND would end up gutting the ACC.

The Miami shit is meaningless.

Notre Dame’s AD exposed himself as a dopey lightweight with that whining but it’s meaningless.

Losing Notre Dame would not gut the ACC. Get a grip. It’d be worse for Notre Dame than the ACC at this point….you want to try to negotiate that same deal with the Big Ten? Even if it works, enjoy getting run through by OSU and Michigan - ND wants no part of that.

That’s dumber than still whining about the Miami deal. The ACC can lobby for its own best interest and the manner in which they do so is not Notre Dame’s business.

Certainly is meaningless to me and you, but it's ND that brings it up

No problem. ND can hold a grudge, and wear it like a badge of infantile honor, with the ACC for 75 years and leave the conference in all sports immediately, but join them for men’s hockey only in about 50 years. Or get a grip. No biggie. Yeesh.

“Duke worked with the ACC and ESPN on future scheduling commitments in exchange for the ability to play these three neutral-site games, including participating in select ESPN-owned and operated neutral-site events in the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.”

Their only other option is the Big 12. And Yormark already made his thoughts known.

They would need to bring more value than they extract which would make the B10 or SEC a tough sell….not going to get far explaining to Michigan or Alabama that they need to part with some dough for ND.

The Big 12 would likely overpay for Notre Dame because 1) Yorkmark loves a press release and 2) conference could use the exposure. But culturally, that would be a shock to Notre Dame’s system.

UConn must be getting something out of this Amazon deal. I'd like to see how much UConn, Michigan, Gonzaga are getting

Dave and Dan asleep at the switch?

Beyond the compelling nature of the non-con games, the business arrangement is also unprecedented. The Duke/Amazon partnership is a multiyear agreement and the NIL opportunities for Duke will be huge — in the millions annually — sources told CBS Sports. In fact, other event organizers had been pursuing Duke for significant nonconference games, sources said, but none of those could match the payouts that will come with Prime Video's package. There is also the advantage of being able to independently control the teams. Because of that, Scheyer aggressively pursued the innovative deal for months. He has been among the most prominent tone-setters in ambitious nonconference scheduling since he took over the program in 2022.

Just a guess, or based on what?
Several sources reported the 500k neighborhood. Here’s one mention

“All of the deals haven't been finalized and signed, but sources said Duke's opponents will make north of $500,000 for playing in the games. (Duke, as the organizer and Prime Video's partner, will make much more.)”

Duke's workaround of the ACC/ESPN contract is the most interesting part of the story. Does every conference TV contract have that loophole? You would think that would create a dam break of schools scheduling games in weird locations with Amazon, Apple and Netflix.
