More trouble in ACC paradise?

I don't think FSU is a cash cow for the Big 10. FSU is a cash cow for FSU. Moving into a crowded market that is owned by the SEC does not translate into money for the Big 10.
Well, FSU is a cash cow for the ACC. Florida is a crowded market chock-full of football talent and college football fans. Add FSU to the Big Ten and take it away from the ACC is a double whammy

All true, I just wonder if FSU's lawsuit and general reputation as being difficult is enough for the Big Ten to pass on them.

Why does football talent matter? This isn't 2005.

If the Big 10 wanted to add FSU, it would have added FSU.

FSU football is a national brand/beyond FL and even SEC country. Pretty sure it is a top 10-15 TV brand (especially when they're winning more than 4 games, lol).

I love this pic! CalFord really adding viewership to the all cretins...way to go tobacco road lackeys, you did a stupendous job of adding value and drawing eyes to your conference.

So why hasn't the Big 10 added them already? FSU has literally sued the ACC, so they are clearly open to offers.

Actually, they can't. The ACC Grant of Rights prohibits FSU or any other ACC school from leaving. FSU tried to sue their way out but couldn't. They negotiated a buyout starting in 2030, which interestingly enough is when the next Big10 contract will be negotiated. Does that mean that FSU will be joining the Big10? Nope, but it does mean that they are hopeful and would be willing to move.

Could the Big10 have tried to buy FSU out of the ACC? Sure, but it would have been so expensive that it wouldn't be worth it.

Performance of football teams is far from guaranteed. It took Miami 24 years to get back to competing for a national championship. For most of that time they have been pretty mediocre. Sometimes bad. Florida State has struggled for a few years now and it doesn’t take that long to go from national power to “ didn’t you used to be somebody?” If other programs consistently beat them for a few more years the distribution chart will look far different.

The grant of rights made it impossible for FSU to leave the ACC. We know you think you are an expert on value, but FSU is a national brand especially in football.

NIL has reset a great deal.

Schools that were great because they were cheating are now just normal and just trading on their reputations.

Unless there is another big reset, some of those name football brands may never be the same again.
I still have a hard time, deciding that it was a good thing, but that's a pretty good argument in favor of it

FSU is not a cash cow for anyone. How long have they tried to leave the ACC and join the SEC? Wonder why the answer for like 40 years has been no?

The idea that the Big Ten needs to strike a blow against the ACC is comedic.

No one has left the ACC since Maryland left because of the GOR. We all anticipate that changing in the next few years. If FSU isn't a cash cow, I don't know if anyone is. Whatever the average ACC payout is, you have FSU and Clemson on one end of the value scale and bcu and wake on the other. Maybe the Big Ten will never come calling but it's not because it feels FSU isn't worth the additional revenue.

FSU is a national brand, but that is not etched in stone. Too many losing or mediocre seasons can be costly.

Nebraska used to be a national brand.

Do you know how long FSU has tried to get into the SEC?

"TALLAHASSEE, FL, November 29, 1955 - Florida State University will make formal application for membership in the Southeastern Conference at the conference's regular meeting in Nashville early next month.

Dr. Howard G. Danford, FSU athletic director, said today he will file the application formally at the SEC's meeting December 8-9-10."

And back in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80's and even early in 1990, they had the University of Florida's support and still did not get in. They even tried again when Maryland left the ACC....they were not even one of the schools vetted by the Big Ten for expansion.

There's just no interest. It makes no financial sense for the SEC or the Big Ten or their television partners. Why is this so hard to understand?

FSU sucks monkey nuts - Big Ten, SEC

FSU is another in a list of schools that was pretty good when they were one of the few passing envelopes with cash around.

no doubt. so everything should even out for whoever wants to join the race. meanwhile Oregon was invited to the party based on its bags of cash. oregon, washington, rutgers, maryland. makes no sense at all.

Interesting article, especially regarding how FSU is seen as a destabilizing factor by the P2.

I have a question - it seems to be widely accepted that UNC and UVA are locks for future P2 invites. I can kinda see the case for UNC, but what exactly does UVA bring to the table? I don't get the infatuation with them, can someone please explain?

The B1G's always had a thing for UVA. They want to lock down the DMV, plus they like the academics of a UVA. If they also get UNC then they basically own the eastern seaboard at least the most populous part of it.

Not until they add us.

In theory, and by the old math, UNC and UVa are flagships and expand the footprint. Would be a geography play like Maryland and Rutgers, but in this day and age, does a geography play warrant adding $100,000,000 per year for each school?

Probably not.

The things that made sense in 2011 or 2022 or 2023 no longer make much sense now.

Plus from many reports out of Carolina, UNC is looking for the SEC not the Big 10. Bubba Cunningham has said as much. I doubt Virginia is thinking that way.

Offseason clickbait AI slop is not a "report".

I'm hoping that it is just one or two defections and we are brought in to backfill. Under those circumstances, the ACC is still a viable conference albeit likely the number four of the power four.

I also low-key kinda hope that the big 12 preempts the ACC offer to us to take us off the board. I don't see that happening though.

I also am acutely aware of CR #1 lurking out there somewhere and waiting to manifest itself in a way that we can't yet foresee.
