Hope to see Jefferson play more and more minutes during the NCAAs (she should have been our starting point guard since December). Inexperienced yes, but she is our only pure point guard. She'll have her turnovers and make her mistakes, so what?, everybody else makes them. I feel for Bria having to play point guard and struggle against Diggins and Sims.

Anyway, on a night like this we all seem to have the answers and start pointing fingers. There will be a tomorrow and most likely another match with Notre Dame down the road and... it'll be UConn 72, ND 71.9

Time for a glass of wine and my dogs' evening walk. Good night everyone.

No she's not ready for that type of pressure.I really hope Saniya is ready from day one. Banks coming off an injury won't be the answer Without Faris and Doty UConn will not have much depth in the backcourt.

And Hartley is? She threw some dreadful passes yet again, caught an in bounds pass already running w/o turning and traveled....that's a train wreck. Have to give the frosh a chance even after a mistake..........

I was a big Jefferson fan before the season, however even though she is very fast, and quick, she lacks the strength to do anything in traffic.

I know it is a long shot, but they need to add another PG in the 2013 class. There must be a decent ball handler somewhere......a Sleeper in the US, Europe, Canada, or JUCO

This may be unpopular but I agree with Mau to an extent. Saying Hartley is a train wreck at the PG spot is overrstating it by a bit, but the essense is true. Either Doty or Jefferson needs to be the PG and Hartley as the 2G. In person, Hartley made many more mistakes than Jefferson. You may say Moriah is not ready, but Bria is not good as PG against teams like ND...

This is an interesting question to debate: Looking with hindsight (of course), would i have been better to start MoJeff at PG beginning in December and teach her as she played? I have no idea, but its an interesting thought. She looks tough enough that such an experience, even if she had bad games, would not destroy her confidence, but would she have been ready for prime time by the end of the season? Obviously, Geno thought no, and that's good enough for me, but the idea is intriguing.

That's been my view all season, Tom.
Also what about Morgan?

  1. That's what the coach in me would have done!
  2. Would Moriah have been ready for prime time? I don't know. But knowing the condition of CD's knees and Bria being a shooting guard, it would have been worth trying. Just my two cents.

Diggins got in Hartley's head early on in this game and she never recovered. You could see the hesitation in her eyes every time she handled the ball. Diggins is relentless on D, she gets away with a lot, which she knows & that fuels her fire even more. You could almost see Bria wince every time Diggins was in her grill.

I would like to see Geno give Jefferson more minutes. I just feel better with the ball in her hands than Hartley or Faris. But that's me.

And if you believe she is not ready to do that and you throw her into the mix prematurely and you are right and she fails you may ruin her confidence and value down the road. Early in the season Moriah had no awareness of how the offensive sets were functioning and that was very obvious when she was on the court.

IF she didnt know the drill early in the season, that, to me, would be very understandable. And if the boat of her confidence has been rocked, I'd say it is NOT because she has not played well enough. Had she been shown the seemingly endless patience shown to a couple of other guards, present and past, rather than the very quick hook given herself and some others, her confidence and play would both probably make us all quite pleased. Early this year, one "mistake" and you're out? More recently, one night you're starter material , and the next you can barely step on the court? As it is, I think she has done a darn nice job for us and I'm solidly in her corner.

The standard UConn company line is that Geno makes practice hard so that games are seemingly easy. Yet, you can't simulate that pace and pressure of a game, in practice. IMO, if MoJeff had been inserted as the PG early on, what harm would it have done? Oh, we beat teams by 35 instead of 50? By the end of the year, you would have a lightning quick PG, who NOW understands the intricacies of the offense, and can handle it with confidence.

That's exactly what was I trying to say!
Of course, it's all water under the bridge now. But, hey, part of being a fan is pondering about what if...;)

You have a point there. She would undoubtedly make mistakes, but she is a good ball handler. She is fast, fearless and can be annoying to opposing teams. Time to give Bria a break.

I, for one, don't wish to see ND anymore this season. I've had enough.

Time for a shot of whiskey and give my husband his evening beating. Good night everyone.

MEGAN: you're a real pip......great closing line there, cleverly following NCY's straight-line. Had already gotten a chuckle from an earlier post of yours today when I notice your tag line in blue. Keep 'em coming. (Sounds like your man could use a sip or two himself, eh?)

PS: Oh, re ND, these particular Irish are way too smug for my liking, from the top on down. And get away with far too much, especially the routine charges by Diggins. So, I understand your feeling for sure, but I'd be glad to get another crack at em; we have the POTENTIAL to stagger 'em big time...and I would just love to see that.....but a few changes have to be made.
