Monday 11/4

Tough night for High Point. Squandered a 8 point lead at the start of the 4th period to lose 66-65 to a fellow Triad school
I didn’t realize you were accepting non-NC (or adjacent) schools as “your” teams. That brings 300 more schools into play as contenders for the TSA (Triad Seal of Approval).:D

Its easy to remember... I root for all NC schools (except for one). plus Presbyterian (SC) and SMU

Drama in Pullman! Washington St. hit a 3 to take a 2 point lead w/ 4 seconds left. On the other end Eastern Washington got a layup just before the clock expired to force OT. EWU coming off I believe their best season ever, but a totally revamped roster. Cougs lost several stars from last year as well.

More drama in OT. Teams trade 3's in the closing seconds, Cougs come up w/ a 1 point win.

So Charlotte over Presbyterian was another case of one of your teams beating another of your teams?

Washington jumped out to a 30-3 lead early in Q2 against Seattle U. before a scoring explosion by SU. Dawgs emptied the bench in Q1, 11 players got in, that's everybody on the roster.

.-.
Swords got fouled on that last three. But I understand that is a hard one for the refs to call. Fun game. Way more competitive than I expected.

Michigan looked way better tonight than they did in that exhibition game.

And it was a brilliant adjustment to have Hobbs handle the ball.

First women’s game ever on TNT/TBS tonight?

PBP is familiar — Spero Dedes I think?
Grant hill and a woman as color

More networks generally good but one problem is that already are so few good WCBB commentators; almost all work for ESPN, a few others for Fox, leaving almost none for anyone else.
"A woman"? That's how you refer to Candace Parker? I thought they did a great job and meshed well together.

Hobbs is a guard. It should be expected that she would have ball handling duties
She can be utilized in a manner similar to how Leigha Brown played while there.

Michigan plays a very aggressive brand of defense that will help them perform better than expected this season. Swords is a straight up baller. Hobbs had a great game as well.

when I wrote the post I didn't recognize her voice; she was not talking very much

I thought it was a foul, too. If I'm being honest, and I wasn't completely focused while watching the game, I saw a lot of fouls by South Carolina go uncalled tonight; maybe it was called the same way on both sides.

I thought USC and UCLA looked tough today. Also good efforts by Louisville and Ole Miss.

Exciting half for SCar - Mich that should make everyone happy. It's entertaining. SCar hasn't looked nearly as tough. Michigan has forced small ball and is winning it.
I know I was. Missed the early games and was treated to an entertaining game.

Swords showing she's as advertised and why she's been fast tracked by Canada Basketball. Glad to see she got off to a good start in her debut.

Hobbs was both good and bad. If she can settle down and control the turnovers, this roster can be sneaky good.

Interesting day of games. So hard to gauge or take away too much when teams are going against different levels of opponents. But I did like what I saw from some of the ranked teams against lesser foes. Kentucky, Iowa State, Duke all looked good at home and had impressive showings from Freshman. Notre Dame also looked great. It's not only the Miles triple double but Prosper looked great all game. Koval is super competent and King is a scorer. I thought both USCs showed something in that they won ugly. At the same time, in game 1.. they both showed they kinda miss what they had last season. Southern California lost 2 of their better 3 point shooters. South Carolina at this point lost their two best post and defensive anchors. I couldn't imagine Swords attacking the basket like that if they had Watkins. I know it's game 1. But game 1 revealed a lot last season. I liked what I saw watching Oregon. Big shouts to Sammie P coming back for usf.

There were a lot of fouls in the paint for both teams. WBB isn’t for babies. :)

I'm a little biased but I'd rate SCar the most disappointing of the three today. It did look like Cardoso was the special sauce though Pao, Tessa, Kitts and Edwards played pretty well. Let's hope SCar is able to play bigger lineups vs NC State.

I'm not sure whether UCLA or So Cal looked better. On one hand So Cal arguably should have lost and UCLA pulled away late, but Iriafen and Watkins with Smith seems the strongest three.

I thought South Carolina looked a lot less scary without a dominant interior post player. It’s been a while since they’ve been without Cardoso, Boston, or Wilson anchoring the defense. Michigan was able to attack the rim more than I’ve seen a South Carolina opponent do with success in a while.

South Carolina and the platoon of interior players will definitely get a lot better this year. They have a really high ceiling.

I think it was a bad day for the SEC. Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas A&M all lost to mid majors.
Eh, Arkansas and Missouri are expected to be the bottom feeders in the conference and Texas A&M isn't much higher.

I think it's a stretch to say that Vermont, Fairfield, and TAMU-CC are mid-majors. Closer to low majors imho.

From the 26th, 25th, 27th strongest NET conferences last year.

How much did TAMU pay Joni Taylor to lure her from Georgia ...
to finish in the bottom quarter?

This is year 3. Need to start getting results.

I was just talking about this. She had Georgia in the top half of the SEC and was COY. Had recruiting. Why leave that for TAMU?

Ego. Well, and more money. A&M typically overpays for head coaches and they are really only bidding against themselves. I recall Joni really only had one very good season at UGa; I might not be remembering correctly
