I can't like this enough. Unfortunately, greed wins out.

I wonder if the FA were to have started their league 20 years ago, if they'd include pro/rel. Money always trumps earning your way.

As someone who only dabbles in European soccer, mostly watching EPL for the last few seasons, and some Champions' League, here would be my plan. I would build MLS up to your 40 or so teams that you referenced. Give every city a chance on equal footing. Then set up the league in regional quadrants (or some other division that would reduce concentration of teams) and conduct a multi-season relegation process.

I have some different ideas on relegation/promotion that would make the end of season more exiting for Americans that tend to prefer tournaments/playoffs, but from what I can tell MLS has no interest in relegation. I'd assume the only way that can change is when owners start losing lots of money and believe other owners are profiting off of them.

The big European clubs would do away with pro/rel if they could.

It appears MLS aspires to be as widespread and as irrelevant as the NHL. They will be big in some of their markets but have very little national reach.

I heard on twitter that non national TV Revs games are only on streaming now and not on actual TV....

I just can't fathom a league with 27 teams and still growing. Some teams are struggling to survive with its current teams. Add to that to ratings that I can imagine are pretty low compared to EPL or other big Euro leagues. Plus, it's a struggle to watch those games after the major leagues finish for the summer.

I know it'll never happen but Pro/Rel would increase the level of play and add some interest to following

Both leagues aim for the same demographics. Not interested in the lower class crowd, at least how it seems for now. Leave them to the other leagues. The NFL is taking the same route in the UK.

Pro/Rel is the only thing that would make me interested in that league. And the reason why it is still growing is because it's a ponzi scheme.

Google isn't the end all/ be all. A guy on the basketball board gave me the "Google is your friend treatment" and proceeded to post an 100% incorrect "fact".

Sure, but a research link was simply provided. @UCFB fan got it.

Barring some more efficient and effective alternatives, alphabet & other search engines enable quick info access, e.g., # of teams in major US/Canadian sports leagues. Any results are on the user to validate. Surely, you must have a more reliable resource. Trust, but verify.

I'm too lazy to search Google. Plus, some people have sites they know that provide that info so I trust them vs searching on Google.

However, it was well played in terms of a response! :D

The new owner of the NFL Panthers, David Tepper, is driving this. Charlotte was not on anyone's MLS list until he came on board. The Raleigh club has a lot more history with soccer and has a plan for a downtown MLS stadium; but, lacks a big-pockted owner, which is what Tepper is. The two groups should work together as I can't see North Carolina supporting 2 MLS franchises.

The only reason North Carolina FC left the NASL for USL was to get into MLS. So . I’d go with the deep pocketed owner because that seems to work better.
