Maybe. NYCFC, while still looking for a true home, built their training complex in Orangeburg NY, which is about 25 miles from Yankee Stadium. I can almost guarantee that NYCFC is not building their permanent home in Rockland County NY.

Apppraently the the Atlanta United/Falcons owner shamed Kraft and others for not spending a dime in the last big league meeting.

Good. The location is fine, despite the whining. The best move is to simply to use what they have. A 25,000 seat soccer stadium would also be a superb concert venue, and would bring in show that can't fit at Gillette.

The Rt. 1 corridor is going to see major development in the next few years. There is now a small casino at the junction of Rt. 1 and 495. Currently, there is a lot of open land on Rt. 1 just north of 495. A NasKart is already being built. New restaurants, including a Grill 110, are going in on Rt. 1 just north of I-495. A second hotel has been added at Patriot Place. Trillium brewing in Canton is not far, nor Castle Island in Norwood. That part of the state is booming. I live there and see it every day.

For all the insistence that a city location is required, there are more people within a 45 minute drive of Foxborough than in all of metro Austin. There are a lot of soccer fans in the metro-west Boston suburbs, and in the Providence area.

So for the next 2(?) slots, looks like St. Louis, Detroit, and Sacramento are in. Any one else? I'm thinking Raleigh may be a surprise entrant as they have been in the mix before, are working on a downtown stadium plan, and one of their biggest backers, Jim Whitehurst, just got big check when IBM bought Red Hat for $34 Billion.

Old news. Columbus is being bought by the Cleveland Browns. The old Columbus owner has the rights to an expansion team in Austin.

MLS awarded Beckham a club on the condition it be located downtown. They've strayed a bit from that plan.

And the greed continues, Garber now is indicating that MLS may go beyond 28 teams. Please, for the love of the game, put in regulation and let these new owners earn they way into the top flight like every other professional soccer league does. Earn it on the field, not buy it.

I can't like this enough. Unfortunately, greed wins out.

I wonder if the FA were to have started their league 20 years ago, if they'd include pro/rel. Money always trumps earning your way.

As someone who only dabbles in European soccer, mostly watching EPL for the last few seasons, and some Champions' League, here would be my plan. I would build MLS up to your 40 or so teams that you referenced. Give every city a chance on equal footing. Then set up the league in regional quadrants (or some other division that would reduce concentration of teams) and conduct a multi-season relegation process.

I have some different ideas on relegation/promotion that would make the end of season more exiting for Americans that tend to prefer tournaments/playoffs, but from what I can tell MLS has no interest in relegation. I'd assume the only way that can change is when owners start losing lots of money and believe other owners are profiting off of them.

I just can't fathom a league with 27 teams and still growing. Some teams are struggling to survive with its current teams. Add to that to ratings that I can imagine are pretty low compared to EPL or other big Euro leagues. Plus, it's a struggle to watch those games after the major leagues finish for the summer.

Both leagues aim for the same demographics. Not interested in the lower class crowd, at least how it seems for now. Leave them to the other leagues. The NFL is taking the same route in the UK.

Pro/Rel is the only thing that would make me interested in that league. And the reason why it is still growing is because it's a ponzi scheme.
