One thing I don’t understand is that while Cunningham got called for the elbowing, why they still counted the basket?

Most Tennessee fans would be a lot happier if Holly was a little less "nice" and a little better coach.
If you watched the game you know that Cunningham's elbow incident was inadvertent. And, by the way, she played on her high school's varsity football team (yes, the varsity boy's football team) so don't expect her to back down. Ever.
Yeah, a lot of her actions are “inadvertent”

It's possible there could be another team in the ACC that fits the bill.
Since the UCONN Game. I’ve looked for any dirtiness from Arike specifically and haven’t seen it. Haven’t seen any real extra anything from Marina either. They haven’t complained to the refs as much either as they could do at times. I’ll keep on the look out. But they seem to be more controlled and are just controlling what can control by not complaining to the refs that much. Like they were earlier on in the season.

Staley got thrown out of the gym in Mizzou..... and there was trouble down in SC .. slurs from the stands supposedly or something like that. I love bad blood in sports.. todays players are too friendly with each other in my opinion (all sports, pro and college)

I love some good drama but racial slurs from fans are 100% off limits. Any fan who yells a slur should be escorted out immediately. There is drama and chippiness, but that clearly crosses the line.

A certain school located in Orange County of NC that wears a lighter shade of blue ??

Think bigger. Maybe a school who believes in luck and fantastical characters and likes to paint things gold.

Oh ok.... I wasnt thinking along the lines of a UCONN fan :p The light blue team has had some physical players through the years.

Inadvertent? Did you really say that with a straight face? That elbow was stuck up at an angle that is totally abnormal and for one reason only.

Abnormal for you or I or other players, perhaps, but not for Sophie. She was not deliberately trying to elbow her defender.
Fans of teams she beats claim she plays "dirty." But when I ask them what that means, they don't seem to have an answer. She plays tough and physical... maybe too tough and too physical at times.

Querie: does Sophie Cunningham play the game any differently than, say, former Lady Vol Glory Johnson? Glory provided us with a whole new definition of the “inadvertent elbow.”

Diamond and A’ja talking about Mizzou. No SEC team is a fan of them. Not saying Tenn is innocent (Westbrook shoving Cunningham a few times) Also Hearing Sophie yelled at Bridgette Gordon post game then got into an altercation with Rae Burrell the Tennessee freshman who had to be taken back by some of her teammates.

Post game press conference Rennia Davis also said she wasn’t surprised that Sophie elbowed her. Look for quite the game in Feb. Not a fan one bit of Mizzou.

ON the flip side, she and her staff have shown themselves to be fantastic recruiters. Very few teams in the entire country have recruited better than Tennessee the past 3 years...

Yes but thankfully TN hasn't done much with any of them!

Lot of chippy play from Missouri...a Missouri player just threw the ball off a Tennessee player's face. Missouri player claps at Holly Warlick end of the 3rd. 51-50 Missouri.

I didn't get so fired up about Missouri's antics last season. I don't mind the scrappy team that is a little dirty as much as some others. You play with an edge and that sometimes can make up for talent and they certainly took one game from South Carolina that way.

I was just amazed at how many folks here seemed to take Missouri's side in the incident in Columbia. They're edgy as hell and instigate most of what they receive. I was pleased that South Carolina gave it back to them in the matchup at home.

Cunningham is a fun player to watch. no question she's a villain, but I kind of like it.

Debbie Antonelli has some kind of love for Cunningham. I don't know what it is, but she cannot stop talking about her when she calls a game.

She's Missouri's best player by a mile and good enough to make them an upper division team rather than a bottom division team. She deserves the attention.

The Tennessee woman putting her hand down is uncalled for. Sophie is volatile. But she is constantly disrespected and blamed for all the stuff that happens in nearly every game. I like her willingness to take on all comers. She is harassed by fans and sometimes refs. I wish Ogunbowale got that much negative attention. And I would love to see her try to trip Sophie! Wow.

If everyone has a problem with you, it's probably you, but I think she's kind of fun. If she starts tugging on her braid and acting innocent, she stuck a knife in someone.

Missouri and Cunningham are pretty unpopular with my fellow Gamecocks, but again, I look at them as a test of toughness.

Mizzou fans getting all excited about beating an increasingly irrelevant Tenn. team is funny.

They finally won in Knoxville at least 5 years after that means anything. Big deal.

This was their national championship. Season is all downhill from there.

She still plays that way in the WNBA.

If you take the time to watch those postgame pressers, you’ll see that NONE of the players or coaches are interested in tearing down the opposing players or creating drama. The MEDIA is trying to create the drama. Same guy asks a Tennessee player and the coach “Do you consider Sophie Cunningham a dirty player?” Both responses were similar in saying she plays hard and physical all the time and is super competitive. No dirt thrown to the likely dismay of the media.

What did Sophie Cunningham have to say? One part stood out to me is she said “Tennessee is an athletic and well-coached team.” Geez, what a terrible person.

"Well coached"? I can forgive all the dirty elbows in the world, but a lie that egregious is really offensive to the basketball gods.

The MEDIA is trying to create the drama.

Did the media create that whole postgame kerfuffle with the handshake line and Cunningham barking back and forth with LV players?

There was drama.

Of course the players are going to downplay it in the post-game presser. College athletes have been media-trained to never say anything controversial. You really think a UT player is going to sit right next to Holly and call out Cunningham? Never going to happen.

Oh come now, that's part of her game.

She plays innocent well. She does the dirt then turns around and tugs the pony tail with a smirk.

She's very experienced in press conferences following charged games. She knows what to say.

Did Sophie grab that woman wrist that snubbed her and make her give her a high five? If so Sophie is a wild girl lol.
