I like Mir a lot but I don't see the Kalana Greene comparison. I think more Gabby-like. I don't think Mir has the -guard-like open-court play that Greene had. For example, I missed most of today, but has there been one time this year that Mir has shown that when she catches a pass beyond 25+ feet from the basket that she can put the ball on the floor and make a pass creating for others? I think 10-15 feet after she catches a pass she can do- but a guard like KG - you could pass her that ball at 25 + feet or even on a fastbreak near halfcourt court and she could do a drive-and-dish. I just don’t think she has those passing guards skills yet to be a Kalana-type.
IMO what's hurt her this year is the UCONN guards overall haven’t been as good shooting the ball as we're normally accustomed to-which means the defenses sag. Normally, other years she could be a highly valued weapon in haflcourt because “she would have space to operate” imo. And if the defenses sag - how is she going to score with so much size and athleticism vs the elite teams? She can score vs the Big East and small teams like Arkansas. So for now and up until 1 round or two in Tourney you can put her anywhere and she’ll probably be effective enough.
Prior to this point, I just figured that if Geno ever did start to play her more it would mean that in practices she probably figured out how to score more efficiently in the inside when she goes against Griff, Edwards, Liv and Piath. Apparently she hadn’t but maybe we’ll see for ourselves going forward.
If he plays her- great. And I know she can do well enough vs the B.E. and round 1 or 2. But I think her game needs the perimeter players to knock down perimeter shots to open the lane for her. Anna can be very big for her in this regard imo. Mir seems to have an incredible electric 1st step when she faces the basket. And if she shows she can hit 15-foot jump shots - the better too. She could be terrific. IMO she needs an open lane- not congested though. Otherwise she is very limited as of this year unless something has recently changed in her game.
