Could someone please tell me how they are in a major conference and we are not? Even with the football it makes no sense.
Because New Jersey has over twice as many residents as Connecticut, has better high school football, is adjacent to PA and NYC and is an AAU school. Is that enough?
Covering up for a nobody like Mike Rice is mind boggling. The AD needs to be fired for the sheer lunacy of putting his program at substantial risk of legal liability for trying to placate an idiot coach with no pedigree to warrant it. Now that Gov. Christie has weighed in (no pun intended, lol) it will be curtains for Coach Rice and probable dismissal for AD Pernetti. Lots of money will now be paid to Eric Murdock and we'll wait to see what other lawsuits percolate up from this debacle.
I've never heard of a coach doing this except...well most of them...jeez, he pushes defenders out of the way when they aren't well, defending. Calls them names? (ever hear Jim Calhoun at GAMES when he's dissatisfied with a player?) Throws balls at people's legs? or their guts? Heavens...imagine a basketball player having to be awake for the ball?http://college-basketball.si.com/20...ly-and-verbally-assaulting-his-players-video/
Sorry if this has been posted before.
iv never heard of a coach doing that to his players, except Bob Night.
great article by the way.http://www.theonion.com/articles/i-guess-im-the-only-one-who-remembers-the-time-we,31930/
Mike Rice pens editorial, "I Guess I'm The Only One Who Remembers The Time We Upset UConn"
Well, this might not make freescooter happy, but this is from someone who should know a little about Calhoun's behavior in practice. Didn't realize he was on the Board of Directors, either.

He yelled at players. Sheesh, ok he probably should clean up the language, avoid some of the worst stuff, but I mean really have any of you guys ever been in an athletic team locker room? I can't remember much Shakespeare being discussed. He threw basketballs at players? From what I saw they were mostly low throws, and the high ones weren't head shots they were shoulder high. I guess it was unacceptable in the current PC world. I mean I've sat behind the UConn bench a few times. I've heard Calhoun and his comments to both players who screw up and especially the refs, aren't exactly printable in a family newspaper either. Heck, I heard him cuss out one guy, after a quick hook, with a string of obscenities that I wouldn't have even imagined could go together. I think he insulted th ekid, his mother, his father, his dog, his cat and his goldfish all in succesession, though I'm not exactly sure what some of the combinations of cuss words even meant as he used them...and which fortunately weren't taped! Of course he won National Championships. Rice doesn't come close. Nobody worried about Bob Knight until he stopped winning championships. Then it was Oo! OHH! he uses swear words and pushes his players. PC comes to the gym.
Shut up honestly. Your thinly veiled lament that the world has become too PC is nothing other than an excuse for you to criticize Calhoun. He yelled at players. Overall though his stuff is excusable unless you or your kid is a pu**y and can't handle some hardline coaching tactics....... and the chair? That was great...........!!
It's ironic that Eric Murdock turned him in apparently. Many of us will remember some off court Eric/Tate George stories.
