Mike Rice's actions are completely unacceptable and even horrific. Making fun of your players because of their backgrounds? Throwing things at them angrily? Are you kidding me? Rice is a belligerent child. When people grow up they dont act like that.

No wonder he had a horrible record, who would follow a man who berates and abuses those beneath him?

I heard something on the radio about them thinking it was known by the AD was being convered up until Rutgers got and accepted the B1G bid...what do you think? After seeing that video I have no idea why the guy was not fired instantly and on top of that a 3 game suspension for that is nothing. Especially after a Rutgers student commited suicide because of the homosexual remarks aimed at him. I am shocked he didnt get fired and the only thing I can assume is because of them trying to keep it covered up until they got invited.

If Pernetti was telling the truth with Francesa on WFAN, he and the President reviewed the tape together back in December. So I would assume that the President signed off on the original punishment.

Rutgers just got an invite worth $100s of millions of dollars. This was in the Presidents & ADs office in the Fall. They had knowledge of this. And like Spanier & his AD, they pushed it below the public domain. If this was in our news in August/Sept , would Jim Delaney be smiling behind a podium?

They protected Rutgers. They protected their self-interest in the path they chose. It's quite obvious that this was criminal & program/AD shattering. Cover-up again in the B1G.

Your point about similar motivation is fair, but let's keep a sense of proportion here. If Rice had been chucking bowling balls at his players' heads it still wouldn't come remotely close to the systematic coverup of the sexual abuse of children.

I went into the video thinking that it was just him screaming at this players to hustle and such. What I saw was an out of control freak that mocked his players, physically abuse his players and completely making a mockery of the coaching profession. He literally kicked his players and not just shoved but grabbed and threw his players in anger along with firing basketballs at players heads. How he wasn't fired in the first place is beyond me. He actually should have been escorted out of the building in handcuffs after the video first surfaced in Nov.

This jackass probably thinks he's a tough guy because he can use his position of authority to belittle and demean his players. I'm no psychologist but my hunch is that aside from drill sergeants who know exactly what they're doing (and if Rice knew what he was doing he'd probably have the team competing for a NCAA berth instead of the NIT), coaches who do this kind of crap nowadays are covering up their own giant insecurities.

I was an athlete and I have worked in higher end most of my adult life. If the AD and President looked at that film and thought 3 games, a fine, and counseling was enough to address the situation, it tells me two things about them: 1) They lack the requisite judgement to lead. 2) They have no concept of the time in which they live.
The second point is clear because the only way you think 3 games is enough is to assume the tapes would never go public. In this era you have to assume any recorded footage will become public. Shows me they are clueless. And this is an institution protecting a coach who built the school. This guy is a loser as a coach. Why risk the house to protect him?

I would bet that the president's office will come out with some type of statement that "he was kept abreast of the situation by the AD, and based on his version of events agreed to let him handle it by suspension. The president had not seen and was not fully informed of the contents of the video."

Anyone know anything about these kids. Their also going to have about three transfers.

If we wanted them, we would have offered long before they committed to rutgers, that's one program that absolute cannot compete against uconn for basketball recruits, even in their own state, if it's uconn or rutgers, it's uconn.
