Mike Patrick again....

"Hallmark doesn't have a get well card for that one."

"Do you put ice on that Mike?" BP
"Not me." MP

I heard that too... just about lost it and woke up my 11 month old son. That needs to be filed away somewhere for future use.

He's obviously used the Hallmark line before because it was right there, but it still was pretty good.

I watched the game late and have to admit, hearing the Mike Patrick get all hyped up about Napier and Boat felt good in a "jealous girl finally receiving some attention from the popular boy boy" kind of way.

Ya, objectively he is incompetent, but it's hard to not like him when he is marinating our coach and players in praise.

Patrick is a storyteller who falls in love his subject. It used to be Duke - All Duke. Now, he has a little crush on our guys and it makes this an interesting year to watch. He's clearly a blowhard and not as wired in to the game as he pronounces; but, I think I like the serial production of Patrick telling our 2014 story.

And ... YES ... he needs to keep viewers. UCF and Temple got ample push to make these competitive by the two announcers.

I like Patrick now that he is getting to know our team. He is very complimentary and his observations, though outrageously simplistic, are not terribly annoying. I can live with it. At least he praises us and shows us respect.

Exactly. He's not bad when he's done some research. When he used to call the women's championship games, it was embarrassing.

He's just so overdramatic. Tried to build up a 20-point UCF beatdown into a close game a few weeks ago, and did everything he could to make Temple seem something other than bad.

I'm not quite sure what you want him to do. "This fat kid is scoring a lot but keep in mind everyone: UCF still blows!" Is that it? How about "This Temple team is garbage and you should turn the channel!" I don't quite understand why Patrick shouldn't have gotten excited when that 400-pound kid scored his first points of the season -- and then kept scoring and turned a laugher into at least an interesting game.

Part of their job is to make the game seem exciting.

(I'm guessing you're not a Kevin Harlan fan.)

Since we're talking announcers, I have a random Vitale point. I'mtoo young to have wwatched the mid-90s teams, but I watched tcf's highlights of UConn vs. Nova from 1996. Vitale did that game, and he was over the top with his love for Calhoun and Ray Allen. It sounded like he was doing a current Duke game. As annoying as he can be, that kind of pub is huge for the program. Wonder what changed, because in the 2000s he would save that kind of enthusiasm exclusively for Coach K and the Cameron Crazies.

Watch a Duke game from 1996. He may have loved UConn but Coach K could have taken out a restraining order, Dickie V was so obsessed with him and Duke. (Not that that's changed, but I think it may have even been worse back then.) "OHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! OHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! THE CRAZIES!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST FANS IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL!!!!!!!!!!! 1500 SAT'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

After we beat them in '99, he looked like someone had murdered his whole family in front of him. (Meanwhile, Digger Phelps was beaming, which is why I still like him no matter how many dumb things tumble from his mouth.)

I don't hate him, he's just over the top. Again, a lot of announcers do games with bad teams and don't try to make it into a clash of the titans.
Kevin Harlan is the best.

Early years he was a college basketball fan(atic) who called games. IMO It seemed when Coach Valvano died, he became personal friends with coach k, and since then has been enamored with all things associated with k.

It went from being all things basketball to all things dook. In other words from being a college basketball ambassador to dook's ambassador. He tried to befriend uk recently but he seems unable to have two lovers.

Its really a sad story, because he was once the greatest promoter of college basketball ever and for that he does belongs in the HOF.

LEBRON JAMES WITH NO REGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE

I actually liked listening to Bruce Pearl last night

so did I, my first time hearing him do a game and not in the studio and I thought he was pretty good. Also did a nice job of selling the national audience on KO's coaching abilities and reputation like Greenberg and Elmore have done this season.

If Dee Rowe could ever get Cousy to do our games; then we would learn something.

...and we get Patrick + Elmore calling tomorrow's game against Cinci.

I gotta admit, Patrick is annoying me less and less as the season goes on.
Stockholm-syndrome?

Seth Greenberg filling in for Len Elmore.

Mike Patrick on the ESPN call Saturday for UConn-Cincinnati. But Len Elmore is ill, so Seth Greenberg will be filling in.
I really like Greenberg, I am pretty sure he called the last UC-UConn game...Patrick is another story. Hate that guys voice.

I like Greenberg...I also just noticed after looking at tcf15's vid of the Pitt/UConn 2002 BET final that the play by play guy who did the past 2 CBS broadcasts with Gillen was a sideline reporter for ESPN back then and bombarded Caron after that classic with idiotic questions about whether or not he had played his last Big East game. JC basically had to come in and save Caron and told told him to go celebrate with his teammates, guy was/is an idiot.

I like Greenberg in the game, but in the studio he is horrendous
