With the addition of Doggydaddy, the roster goes to 4....
Where the hell has Doggy been besides the women's board? Miss him on the baseball board but maybe he will reappear if the Yankees contend.

There's a video link to the show on the Women's board where he calls BY posters dumb (regarding talk on the UConn women).

I saw this on his twitter:
Mike DiMauro ‏@BCgenius 1h
@jradylady Jane: tried to sign up to BY today and failed. Give BY message: Would love to have BY show on BTB. Looking at Monday, Mar. 21.

Right around the 10:30 mark. Lasts for about 5 or 6 minutes.

On the CPTV sports show Mike called us, i.e. Boneyarders "the dumbest people in America", I'm now hate the guy!!
As some of you may know I was his biggest fan, I considered him to be the Stephen Hawking of Sportswriters, anything he wrote I agreed with, I am now told , by him, that he considers me to be an idiot !!!

Needless to say I'm crushed No more sticking up for him I'm done !

I feel for you, Drew. Always difficult when your heroes reveal that they have feet of clay.

Mike really came up small there. He didn't mention that he called last years' team "pretenders." That's what killed his credibility.

But the fact is PP-apologista Joe Zone was the biggest pantload up there. I always liked Jacobs, ever since the infamous Whaler press conference at UHar. He sat with the fans while Joe D was over on the side yukking it up.

Jeff Jacobs was pretty funny and of course rebutted DiMauro while showing his love for the BY………how many people here will now give him a little more slack on the articles which they disagree with?

Funniest was the way he said "they say it's all about me…." and he basically agreed LOL…..good stuff I thought

Jacobs is still public enemy number one as far as I'm concerned. His personal vendetta against Coach Calhoun was repulsive.

I thought the "WCBB Fans are racist" was one of his true defining moments. Not in a good way. Just dumb.

How about the way hinted he got that from Geno?

I have no idea who this guy is, but it was extremely hard to listen to him speak. He looks petrified to be in front of a camera.

"If I wanted to take the sledgehammer out I would have" ..

Ohhh nooooo - not the sledgehammer!

What a tool and a smug unhappy little man.

That was tough to watch. Whole time I couldn't help but think of Billy Madison, "T t t today Junior"

I was going to make a joke about this, then I realized that he might legitimately have a speech impediment. Either way the guy probably shouldn't be on TV.

I really enjoyed the conversation. I do think Mike DiMauro was a little sensitive but that there is a little validity to his remarks. It seems to me that he was just being the devils advocate and saying things that have been said by others here. With the possibility (at the time) that KML was either going to be unavailable or at least very limited due to conditioning issues and rust from the mono she's been battling, that maybe Notre Dame and UConn would be a coin toss type game. Her limitations would leave UConn really will little or no bench and the comparison between UConn's 5 thru 8 players versus Notre Dames 5 thru 8 players might actually favor Notre Dame which might be a deciding factor. Where I think he's mistaken is comparing their top 4 players (Notre Dames) with UConn's as being even when there is absolutely no way in the world they are. Jeff Jacobs said as much when he disagreed with Mike by bringing up Breanna Stewart who changes everything. She's the Ace in the hole that UConn has but even then, we've also got Bria playing at so much higher a level than she did last year when UConn lost those three games with Notre Dame. Some people talk about Breanna's efforts when UConn destroyed Notre Dame but I think a big part of it was that Bria was finally turning a corner from her injuries she'd been battling (along with a confidence issue) all season long. That and an inspired UConn defense helped make the semi final game a laugher for the Huskies. I think some Boneyarders get overzealous, myself included, sometimes but I respected Mike DiMauro's argument related to Notre Dame. He wasn't rooting for them but just suggested that they are a great team and that UConn's injuries have evened the playing field a little. What I liked is Jacobs defense of the Boneyard in general though he's got issues with some "threats" that have been thrown his way over the years by Boneyarders.

JC (like all head coaches) was a control freak and a bit of a bully where the media is concerned. It just goes with the territory and the writers know that. It really isn't a big deal but with JC and Jacobs it went too far. The vendetta was a 2 way street.
While I disagreed with some of Jacobs more scathing UConn stories because they were definitely mean spirited, he is probably the best local writer IMO. On the other hand, I thought DiMauro came off as a stumbling little whiner.

I can't believe the tv guy in the group is still on tv. And Jacobs is just not very articulate when forced to speak out loud, rather than take hours to write his column. Dimauro is a writer for the New London Day, so no one has ever read his work.

BC sahqs. How do I know? DiMoron went there.

Jacobs should get no quarter from anyone in Connecticut.

It sounds like Mr. DiMauro has a legitimate speech impediment, but saying he shouldn't be on TV is a little much. Bill Walton had a terrible stutter as a younger man, and he did the NBA on NBC for years. You don't think it frustrates a stutterer when they are in the midst of it? Believe me it probably does more than you listening.

It also sounds like Mr. DiMauro has visited a speech therapist a time or two. Those breaks in speech where it seems like he wants to say something but nothing comes out, is actually a learned technique to prevent the Billy-Madison-style stammering. Equally as frustrating for a stutterer is when you want to say something but know it's a sound you'll have trouble with. You can actually feel it. At that point, it's just as important to get any sound out in order to begin the flow of words. Many times a verbal pause (ahh, uhh, umm,) helps, but sometimes you need to pick another word merely for the sound. Starting around 13:15 is a perfect example. He has a number of verbal pauses and then says. "I lost all my c...my credibility around two thousand-fff...five." To me (at least), Mr. DiMauro knew he was going to have a problem with sound. For the C sound he interject a different word (my) when he got there so the C sound could roll off easier. He then stopped on sound in 2005. Another learned technique is to concentrate about what you want to say before say it. Not necessarily the meaning of a word, but the actual sound of the letters. For some though, thinking only makes it worse and adds to the anxiety. Many stutterers (like myself) can sing without a stutter, I'm not exactly sure why, but I think it's because we don't have to think about the words we're about to say. Other times I think its because our singing voice is not our normal talking voice in which we normally stutter.

As a kid, if you want to test his/her fight or flight mechanism, make fun of their stuttering. Even today, something as seemingly innocuous as someone finishing my sentence (even if they are my best friend or they are correct in predicting my thought) makes me want to punch them in the orbital bone.

Bo Jackson was one of my heros growing up and not only for his athletic ability. I saw a documentary where he said when someone poked fun of his stutter as a kid, he would beat the crap out of the offender. No one made fun of him after that. The thing is, if you cry or run away, you're a baby. If you try to comeback over the top verbally, you end up getting so anxious that you stutter more. It's a no win situation unless you eat your Wheaties and spinach, and stop the taunting before it starts. On the bright side for a stuttering baseball player, I was great at infield chatter :p.

These guys are paid to sell newspapers. The majority don't care as long as you read. With where the Newspaper industry is today, they are going to say anything that elicits a response, hyperbole be damned.

Dimauro calling his target audience dumb is not a smart move.

Jacobs did a good job in that discussion.

The CT sports fan lost a lot when Dave Solomon passed, he was the best sports commentator we had.

Many a writer has had dissenting opinions from the masses in the past. It sells newspapers, generates Internet traffic, and this topic is still being discussed two full old world media cycles later. Methinks he did his job. Me also thinks his next column will generate a few more than a nominal amount of hits.

I've always loved the brilliance of Norm MacDonald, but this tops anything else he's ever done. Using an alias of Joe Zone while hosting a sports show on a fake TV station with discussions that center around an online fan forum is off the charts hilarity.
