OT: Mikal Bridges Traded to the Knicks

That's one less trade for the Rockets at 3. Could see Clingan slip to 7 if Risacher goes 1 and then the rest of the teams don't want a center. Unless Grizz move up from 9.
Bulls and Knicks are both going to need a center, I'm sure there's other teams out there who may want to move up too.

It’s not looking likely but the Knicks should find a way to keep Zay and Mitch.

Not sure if trading Randle helps that but if it does, 100% do it.

Yeah I've heard Bulls move up chatter too. OKC as well.

I could see Memphis moving up from 9. Detroit has been linked to Matas a bit, and they might be able to still grab him at 9.

Bulls make so much sense, they've been the weakest team defensively around the rim for several years now.

There's a good chance Knicks won't pay what other teams are offering for Hartenstein and there's rumors they've been discussing trading Robinson to the Wizards. One of those centers won't be back.

.-.
The Villanova Knicks will be very successful. Imagine an NBA team down the lines picks up Newton, Hawkins, Castle, Clingan? lol

Going from the second best team in the East to the second best team in the East isn’t moving me. Giving up 5 first round picks and losing big Hart most likely in free agency is a lot of assets and your starting center. They’re banking on Randle and Robinson holding down the 5, assuming OG resigns.

But I’m a biased Nets fan so.

Yea you’re bugging.

I love this deal! Bogdan was great for us but c'mon.. I never thought the Nets would budge on this, but it seems that getting them the Houston pick back was the deal breaker. Now they can chase Cooper Flagg or the Rutgers boys next summer.

What's next tho? Trade Mitch? Trade Randle? Use the 2 first round picks and move up and take Castle?

I think a scenario like this is what’s gonna get Hurley to finally jump.

I was a Knicks fan as a kid but haven’t really watched much NBA in the last 20 years or so.

That being said, I really like this current Knicks team and adding Bridges will make them even more enjoyable. Hats off the Brunson as he’s been the catalyst for this new wave.

I didn't know there were Nets fans...

As a Knicks fan I love this move - is it a lot of picks for Bridges? Of course - but the chemistry this team will have will be off the charts. Also he fits this team like a glove. Assuming they re-sign OG they have the length, defenders, etc to give Boston a serious threat. I’d still give the nod to Boston of course (how can you not), but a starting line up of Brunson/Bridges/OG/Randle and either Robinson/Hartenstein (one will be gone), with Hart/Donte/Duece/backup C is insane with all pieces that fit, want to be here together, etc.

As for the picks - Knicks still have 5 first round picks in next 3 drafts (including two tonight), and the picks they traded should be very late round 1sts. You’re not talking top 5 or even 10 here most likely.

It’s going to be an interesting few days - extremely happy, but the key is keeping OG. I also don’t think they trade Randall which is why I listed him as a starter above (wouldn’t be opposed though).

I didn't know there were Nets fans...

A lot of NJ Nets fans still follow the team (a buddy of mine living in Westchester has a ticket package) and a lot of people in Brooklyn who weren't big Knicks fans have adopted them. I see more Nets merch in Brooklyn than I see Knicks merch, honestly. (I repeat: in Brooklyn.) It was pretty electric when they got KG & Pierce (and later when they got KD and Kyrie).

Attendance hasn't been bad, although tickets numbers are always unreliable:

Selfishly, I'm an 8-minute walk away from Barclays, so I'd like them to be competitive. When my kids are older, I'd like to go more frequently.

And I get that you're just roasting the Nets but they won 2 ABA titles after your team last won an NBA title.

Trading that many picks doesn't typically work out. "They'll be late first round picks anyways".
The Nets know that better than anyone. They just watched all their picks win an NBA championship. I have to wonder if that inspired them to do this.

Of course 5 picks is a lot. But 2 of the picks are our 2025 1st and Milwaukee's 2025 1st. Never want to assume, but seems like those 2 picks would be late 1st rounders unless disaster strikes for either team. Way I look at it, it's 3 unprotected picks in 27, 29, and 31 that are of real value to Brooklyn. I can live with it.

You think this team is better than the Celtics?

“Better” is a strange way to look at it for me.

They are absolutely designed to neutralize them.

Boston is a bit of a paper tiger to me. They beat for the most part a Mitch-less cavs, Jimmy-less heat, and for the most part a Halliburton-less pacers. Extremely lucky. They handled their business against Dallas so they deserve to be respected.
However I don’t believe they are this juggernaut. I think healthy the Knicks would’ve took them to 6-7 games this season.

But just for the fun of it:

Brunson - Holiday
Bridges - White
OG - Brown
Randle - Tatum
Robinson - Porzingis
Divencenzo - pritchard
Hart - Horford
McBride - Hauser
Achiuwa- ?

I would expect Randle and Robinson are gone.
randle and robinson are both under long term contracts and projected starters. theyre going to resign OG and Achiuwa is a restricted free agent. the only starter that's gone is hartenstein.

Brunson- McBride
Bridges- DD
Anunoby- Hart
Randle
Robinson- Achiuwa

that's a better top 9 than Boston

I think Brunson is every bit as good as Tatum. Call me crazy. I also think Mikel and OG would give Tatum and Brown fits

bridges and OG are better equipped to defend brown and tatum than any other wing duo

Achiuwa is definitely gone, they can't afford him. They only have ~$41M in cap space before signing OG and any of their 3 draft picks

knicks are gonna try to win it with this group in the next two years. by that time, if it doesnt work, giannis will only have 1 year remaining on his deal and a player option. he will force a sign and trade to the knicks. theyll give up randle and 1 or 2 other guys not named Brunson.
