So one kid has scored 24 points and the rest of the team has scored 7 total for OSU? How about a double team or something? I'm not watching the game but that is a very odd stat line. Kid's on fire apparently!
 
Marcus Smart is real...I hope Memphis figures him out, but I'm glad he's doing well. I'd love to see a non-freshman get naismith

Smart is putting on an absolute show. Memphis looks like they always look, a lot of athletes playing streetball, I'm not a fan of Pastner.

Yet we don't run anything like Calipari since Pastner's a Lute Olson guy...great observation.

Err, Pastner started under Lute but was also a Calipari assistant before he bolted for UK.

Either way, great recruiter, mediocre at best coach.

I didn't say anything about Calipari. Every time I watch Memphis under Pastner they look poorly coached.
 
So Memphis has 4 senior guards and still played that spazzed out? Geez.

Pastner was with Cal under 365 days...he spent a decade with Lute as a player and coach.

Probably meant regular season. This is really a poor showing so far. As they leave Smart wide open for three.
 
I hope Bazz shows out on Thu/Fri, there's going to be alot of writers/TV guys in attendance
 
I know he's your coach and you want to stand by him but Pastner is just a bad game coach. They don't run anything on offense, it's all 1 on 1 play, first guy who gets it shoots it.
 
Marcus Smart is really good. Pastner is being badly out coached though. If you told me Memphis is a senior dominated guard team, I would have said no way.

There is a reason Memphis averaged 27 wins per season under Pastner, yet he has never beaten a top 25 team. They were never tested in CUSA. That will change in the AAC, but is Pastner up to the job?
 
right now I don't have much to counter with...we do look REALLY bad.
 
I agree CUSA was a lot of the problem...these guys were accustomed to playing nobodies...getting 30 wins...and making the tourney...I guess I expected growing pains.

Just wait until we lose a few conference games...our fans aren't used to it...we won't know what to do, lol

Memphis does have some very good talent and maybe Pastner can pull it together. Talent alone should win will be difficult to beat say UL.

Pastner's teams do play street ball. They must have turned the ball over on fastbreaks at least 5 times. Missed free throws, quick shots in the clock. What does Pastner do during practice? Scrimmage for 2 hours? Dunk contests?

I don't think people on this board are ready for what a massive drop in competition UConn is experiencing. UConn will need to win 23+ to even think about an at-large with this schedule.

Now how are we going to develop a bitter conference rivalry if you keep making good-natured posts like this! I'm sure you know the growing pains will help you in the long run. For some reason I've always liked Memphis. Probably because that '85 team was in my formative basketball years and you couldn't help liking a team with a guy named Baskerville Holmes.

Smart has everyone going gaga and deservedly so, he's killing. Goodman, Fraschilla, Rothstein, Dauster are just a few of the people in the house for the 2k Classic, Bazz needs to ball out and make his statement now.
 
This is boys vs men - everyone talks about Memphis athleticism BUT it pales in comparative to Ok State
