Memphis Post Game Thread

Most importantly: this is the Jaylin Stewart breakout game. Loved to see that.

This game continues my absolute love of what Tarris Reed Jr. can bring to this team. He’s been a part of some awful Michigan teams that hid his potential and he’s vastly exceeding my expectations in the first true test of the season.

I do have backcourt concerns, though. Lots of useful players, but I’m unclear which guard will be “the guy”.

On that note, the Diarra-Ross-Stewart-Karaban-Reed lineup intrigued me, especially as a “big” lineup against tough teams like Memphis. If we play Colorado tomorrow, another big team, I’d like to see that rotation for more minutes.

People will blame the refs, but that's secondary to me.

Our coach lost that game for us more than any player. That was an embarassment to the program, and a reversion fo 3 years ago. Massively disappointing. No player should be help accountable until Hurley apologizes to this team.

I've said it for a long time and taken a lot of flack. Samson simply isn't that good. Love the kid--but he isn't improving nearly enough. Start Reed.

Guard play will be our biggest weakness. Mahaney was suppsed to replace Tristen but has looked more like Joey California, unfortunately. I'm not really even seeing the flashes of brilliance you'd hope for from a guard making the transition to a new program. Diarra is a solid 6th-man, no doubt.

McNeeley came through late in the 2nd half but I don't get the lack of Stewart minutes in the 2nd half after how he played in the first half
I guess Hurley thought Ross could be better playing defense. I think Stewart looks better on D due o his strength. He had to keep McNeeley and Karaban out there but when Johnson fouled out Stewart should of came in.

Bad call or not, Hurley should be absolutely embarrassed and ashamed of himself for getting that T with 40 seconds.

So much for chilling out over the past couple years, let the players ( and refs in this game ) decide the game.

A 2 time national championship coach losing his cool in the 5th game of the season had me 2nd hand embarrassed tbh.

This is the time to lose - in November. You can see in the cupcake games that the talent overshadowed how they played. Now they know talent alone won’t win games. This team has talent and the best coach in America. We will be there in March.

Jaylin Stewart breakout half. Where was he all 2H?

That call was embarrassing. Clean rebound by McNeeley and then Solo got popped in the jaw by a swinging elbow just standing there. And was called for a foul. Sad!

broke out and then Hurley decided to put him back in handcuffs

I was fully expecting some rough patches early in the season. This is a lot of new pieces being asked to do a lot of new things. There is plenty of upside left in this team from now until later in the season. Memphis also just hit a lot of very tough shots (some might say bad shots). Sometimes those just go in.

On an individual level, ROUGH games from SJ and Mahaney. The gap between Reed and SJ is wider than anticipated and Hurley needs to see that an adjust going forward. This was not a good matchup for SJ and there will be better ones but he was just outclassed by every big on the floor in a huge way.

I’m sure this will get me called a “Samson hater” by someone again.

Why not. Lead official is Steve Driscoll who has a long history of terrible and inconsistent calls again UCONN. Will be interesting too see how he treats us in Big East games this year.

Because it's embarrassing and classless.

The refs blessed us by giving out a double technical on the Samson push and Hurley rewards them by ripping into them for a 50/50 over the back call on McNeeley.

People can only take so much and he argues EVERY call. This game was not on the refs.
