Memorial Day | The Boneyard

Memorial Day

Unlike Independence Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the like, Memorial Day is to be "observed," not "celebrated."

To all my Marine comrades, Semper Fi. To all those who served, you know how it was and what you did. Never forget those who are not here to share with us. Just a short prayer each night and ask God to take them into his arms and treat them like the special people they are.

A great big shout out to all that have served protecting this great nation. Also a huge shoutout to my beloved Cornell Lacrosse program for winning the national championship on this Memorial Day...48 years in the making

To any, and all of you, who went to Vietnam, and came home safely: I'm so sorry you were sent there, but so glad you survived. I lost classmates and students, and for what? Any time I visit the Vietnam Memorial I end up breaking down; it is so profoundly sad. Sorry if people may think this inappropriate here, but this is how Memorial Day hits me every year. I guess because it was my generation.

It is not inappropriate boontonbomber. I am a Vietnam vet and when I have visited the Vietnam Memorial and see the names of my infantry OCS classmates who didn't make it back the sadness is overwhelming. It is something that will always be with me especially on Memorial Day. Requiescat in pace my brothers.
