Well, if she is going to fill the role she has with CPTV in a more professional way, then I think she does need to step out of that previous life situation [during her on air time]. I am not saying she needs to be completely impartial, but her rant and language about what fans were way over the top and provocative. Ready to blow their brains out - - that is a sad statement in the world of violence we live in. Look at the way Kara Lawson used to handle Tenn/Uconn discussions when she first started on the air. Now she is much more balanced - she grew professionally. Maybe MC can't grow beyond where she has been to see a bigger picture - - kind of sad if that is the case. She should watch people who are very skilled in the art of the interview - - someone like Charlie Rose, and learn. Apply it to her own world.
You can't compare what Meghan does with Kara's position. Apples and oranges. Try watching one of the big time college football coaches shows hosted by the team's play-by-play announcer. Same thing.

I just rewatched the Geno Show. What I missed the first time was this from Culmo -

"People are ready to blow their brains out and want to kill the players"

They must be the same people out on ledges and jumping off bridges. Message to Culmo- a little hyperbole is fine but ya' ought not be accusing fans of being homicidal.

I finally had the chance to watch the Geno's show after all the discussions that had gone on here, and I am glad I did. Frankly I am baffled by folks who are trying to make a mountain out of ant hill with regards to the Geno-Meghan discussion. I am amazed that some folks don't appear to get Geno's sarcasm (and Meghan's response to it) or just plain refuse to do so. That is part of the charm of the show. To take the literal meaning of clear hyperbole and somehow state that they were accusing fans of being homicidal...Now that's is OVER THE TOP!!! Perspective, my friends....a little perspective.
Peace!!

Going back to the thread title - Who are these people and I'll add what expectations are unreasonable? I think if we revisited the pre season thread discussing predicted losses we would find the responses ranged from as many as 8 losses to as few as none. IIRC most people seemed to think that the team would lose 2-3 games. Are those unreasonable expectations of spoiled fans?

If we were to review the pre ND game IIRC there were a lot of people that expected a ND win and probably an equal amount of people that thought that UConn would pull it out. Was that unreasonable? Is it unreasonable and spoiled for a fan to expect their team to win every time they step on the court? I know there are some very long time and loyal fans here on the BY that think that way. Are they haters or lovers?

Did anyone here e-mail Auriemma or Culmo? Where is all this "hate" coming from? If somebody did e-mail Auriemma (no I didn't) and asked how the heck did this happen, do they qualify as a "hater?"

You need to read a little closer. I agreed that Culmo's comment was hyperbole and posted that. Where we differ is that I think it was a very poor choice of words and uncalled for. That was my complaint. Some things just aren't jokeworthy - i.e. killing players - no matter how it was intended. Based on her expression when she said it there was no indication of sarcasm.

As for Auriemma, I have watched him and enjoyed his wise ass brand of humor for nearly 20 years. I also worked in South Philly for a lot of years with a bunch of guys that went to the same brand of humor school. I have a pretty good idea when he's sarcastic and when he's serious. IMO this was the latter and unfortunately not the first time.

The very last wish for a Geno show change would be for it to take on the tenor, tone and uber professionalism of a Charlie Rose interview... This is a dopey little coaches show, not a interview forum for world leaders and world shapers.

MC's deep connection is her "value added proposition." Her "insider's view is the very reason many watch the show at all. She was over exuberant in a forum that has no weight or meaning.

Sheesh, people.... We've become so very sensitive to what others say while at the very same time so very critical of others with our own words.

OK, but I stand by my thoughts and I agree with vtcwbuff that: "Where we differ is that I think it was a very poor choice of words and uncalled for. That was my complaint. Some things just aren't jokeworthy - i.e. killing players - no matter how it was intended. Based on her expression when she said it there was no indication of sarcasm."

My view is also that some things just are not funny or socially acceptable, whether on Charlie Rose or a "dopey little coaches show" - and MC violated that ethic badly IMO: visual imagery that was violent, uncalled for, and offensive to fans, players, recruits, and the citizens (including children and young adults who watch) of CT. It was just a repugnant statement, particularly in the context of the unfortunate violence on campuses in recent years. I would be shocked if Susan Herbst did not send MC a message about that comment. [I also can't image that CPTV appreciated it in the context of their campaign to continue showing CT WCBB - talk about the sheer stupidity of horrible timing!!] I realize that MC will never be Charlie Rose and that the Geno show would not be best served by a C. Rose. I also do not know whether MC aspires to improve professionally or whether she always wants to be the "dopey" leader of a "dopey little coaches show" and continue to aspire to match GA's wit, but if she does want to improve, language use and the expression of ideas are areas she can have an immediate and positive impact on her performance. Personally, I do not think we can shy away from becoming "so very sensitive" to comments such as these, especially when they are said by public figures (even in a "dopey little coaches show") to a broad age range. If MC does not see this as a problem than it is a sad commentary from many perspectives. Sorry for the length...

Boo - I don't think anyone is calling for any changes to the Geno Show. Certainly not me. I just thought that Culmo's attitude regarding fans was wrong and that her comment was bad form. I thought it was a bad choice of words and a huge misrepresentation of UConn fans in general - hyperbole notwithstanding.
