McElwain out @ Florida

It's not the 4 losses or "only" 9 wins. It's the fashion in which they happen. The blow out losses and or losses to teams like NIU are what is unacceptable. It's the yearly nail biters to team like Ark St and Purdue. Yes, on occasion that may happen, but it's a yearly occurrence. If they were performing at Wisconsins level, with a chance to rise above that now and then, the majority of the fan base would be good with that.

And I'm telling you that their fan base would NOT be good with that. And I know that because that's exactly what they had with Solich. Nope, wasn't Osborne. Wasn't good enough.

Well, now that Diaco is on board, they are going to PRAY for Pelini...

Actually, that's not what they had with Solich. Starting in 01 they had a very good team blown out by Colorado in the last regular season game. That game opened the flood gate and they've never really been the same since. In 02, along with 7 losses, they were blown out 3 times. In 03, they were blown out in all 3 losses. I agree that Solich should have been given at least another year. It has gotten worse since then but it was the same precedent. They were not competing in games, that at the time, they likely should have won. They want to compete and look respectable even in a loss. There is nothing wrong with that.

Yes, in 2002 they had a rough year.

But in 5 of the 6 years Solich coached, Nebraska finished the season ranked in the top 19. In 3 of those 5 ranked years, they finished ranked in the top 8.

That's what's wrong with that. They didn't just have "respectable". They had extremely good teams. Fiesta Bowl - Rose Bowl type teams. But you know how it is at Nebraska... ;)

I get that, and I understand just looking at the final record how it seems. I followed the team pretty extensively back then and something changed after the Colorado game, you could feel it. Like I said, I think Solich deserved at least another season. I stand by the reasoning though, it was how they lost and not the record.

We won't change each others minds though, so I'll drop it.

To your point on a prior post, yes Bo is preferably to Diaco.

Yeah, I'll drop it too. No need to worry about Nebraska problems while I worry about UConn problems... ;)
