McDermott Retires

He was doing NIL before it was called NIL.

You can think of another name for it if you’d like.

Doesn’t change what he was.
Are you saying that because of his assistant coach in 2019 was in the FBI investigation? I am genuinely curious, not debating. I always thought Greg McDermott was a salt of the earth type guy and Gus Johnson and Donny Marshall speak highly of him, FWIW.

You can make any claims you like with no proof, it doesn't make it true.

Forgetting that it was basically a known for years, there’s actual sworn federal testimony confirming it.

You get in more of these situations where you hang yourself out to dry than almost anyone else on this site. Do you ever know what you’re talking about or do you just roll with whatever is in your head and pray that it accidentally collides with reality? A version of mental skeet where you just hope that the contents of your head somehow smash into the truth through some kind of divine luck?

No, it’s McDermott on his own. Murphy was one of his bag men but that’s not what he got in trouble for - he accepted cash to steer a player to an agent. (Odd situation - the player he was going to steer to an agent didn’t exist. He made up a name.)

Lolz, you don't think I know all about the FBI case and trial??? Really

Again, you can make any claims you like with no proof, it doesn't make it true.

You've been wrong on this site more than anyone about UConn basketball. Ruff has made a valiant effort this season but he needs to produce for years to ever catch up with you.

We are into shades of gray area here. A lot of schools helped out players here and there, I don’t think McDermott engaged in rampant, open cheating like Auburn, LSU or Alabama.

Not gray.

Creighton was good for money in the orbit of Louisville, Miami, etc.

Honestly, I don’t think you know much about anything.

Gosh, who to believe? The parent under the threat of perjury who says he was offered six figures and a job if his kid committed to Creighton, the federal prosecutors stated in open court that Creighton had offered a player $90,000 to commit or superjohn, a chronically malinformed message board poster?

All for Brian Bowen II. The father said the other schools that offered money were Texas, Creighton, Arizona and OK State. There were no shades of gray. The point man for Creighton got a 2 year show cause and is now an assistant coach for Alabama.

Yes, Preston Murphy got in trouble and resigned. There were no shades of gray in what he did. He was on video accepting money from an undercover FBI agent.

Related to this, Izzo told Hurley 2 years ago to seriously consider the Lakers job because of the shifting landscape in college basketball. We know Izzo hates all this new stuff.

Speaking with the Associated Press ahead of the Sweet 16, Izzo revealed that he told Hurley to consider the Lakers' offer very "seriously" because of how unstable the college landscape was due to NIL and the transfer portal, even if losing Hurley would have been bad for the sport.

"I told him to seriously look at it because I could see where college basketball was going," Izzo said. "But I said, I would hate to lose him because I think he's all that is right about college basketball. He cares about the kids. He cares about the game. He has to care about the game because of his dad."

Looks like Danny made the right call and Izzo's advice might have been more self serving 😁. If college hoop is "unstable" what could be more unstable than the LA Lakers?

Who taught this Pete Thamel to write “per me” on everything?
The same anti-French influencers who had promoted "freedom fries" shifted focus to curb Thamel from writing "per moi," which was his staple catch-phrase in the first half of this decade.

It's great for the league to have great coaches so in no way will I think in terms of how this somehow 'helps' UConn.
Good bye and good luck to a classy coach.

Cmon man. McDermott is not oblivious when they go after a recruit who’s asking for a massive payday. If that doesn’t change your opinion of him, that’s fine, but let’s not be Pollyannas.

Reminds me of someone swearing and then saying "Pardon my French". A French Canadian I knew said ""why does everyone say that when they swear? LOL.
