Quite widespread discussion including SI, MSN, the Mirror and others
picking up the (whoever started it) story that Paige won't play for Dallas

Clearly more than one rabid poster

Just sayin....

Is it true that in order to be drafted, everyone has to declare for the draft AND if a player declares for the draft, they forfeit any remaining college eligibility?
If yes to the above, are these sources saying that Paige will declare but will sit out the 2025 season if drafted by Dallas????

Overall, you can just ignore most of the chatter.

Yes, if you declare for the draft and are drafted, you lose college eligibility. It makes not much sense to get drafted and sit out...as team that drafted you still has your rights the next year.

99% Paige will be drafted by and play for Dallas. She will be a star in a great sports town!

1% chance that Dallas trades #1pick for an absurd offer.

.001% chance Paige sits out, or goes back to UConn. She has confirmed leaving and very unlikely to back track. She loves to play against great competition, which is in WNBA!

I guess we'll find out for sure whether Paige goes or stays on Sunday at Senior Day!
I wish Dallas didn't have the 1st pick!

Paige has leverage if it’s communicated to Dallas that she will sit out and play Euro league for a year. After that the new collective bargain will have increased rookie salaries. So does Dallas have the guts to allow the #1 pick not play for a year.

Certainly Dallas can trade this pick for a great package of players who will play for them this year. Washington has a ton of draft capital this year.

That’s it for me on this topic until ncaa tournament is over.

What happens if Paige doesn't declare for the draft? She has a year of eligibility left, She doesn't have to use it, but can not declare for the draft and then sit out.

This falls into the category of content-creators-needing-some-sort-of-content-to-create-about. It's nothing but a nebulous thought that at least shows that the news outlet is trying to say something in order to get noticed for at least a moment and content creators pickup on it because they have no other content to comment on much like this post which is here because now there's a content created that gets seen, no matter how pointless or useless.....Get it?

We don't find out anything "for sure" on senior day, unless Paige declares she is returning. Sunday is not a decision deadline, but it is an opportunity to reveal something if you choose to. More than 1 senior day is now pretty common. Paige could even have three is she wanted to.

I know what Paige has said, and believe it is very likely she goes to the W and plays for Dallas. Having said that, there are very legitimate reasons she might have doubts and could reconsider. Paige has options and leverage. The landscape for a top player potentially considering the W is quite different now and particularly for this specific season.

Paige can make big bucks next year with or without the W because of NIL possibilities. Players now have alternative US leagues, instead of being forced to play in foreign leagues to make off-season income. The next WNBA contract negotiation should produce rookie contracts that are much higher than what Paige would get this year. I wouldn't be surprised if a rookie next year could make more in three years than if they entered the league this year and played for four.

With the way attendance and TV ratings took off last year, players with the option of waiting this year, not just Paige but everyone, have never had a greater incentive to wait because of the new contract, particularly if they can make NIL money in the interim and maybe chase a championship, or enhance a legacy.

The other point I want to make is if Paige was considering coming back, forcing a trade from Dallas, or even seeing how she felt after the season ends, she has little reason to reveal those possibilities now. There is nothing to be gained by stirring the pot now, any decision could be made, or revealed after the last game.

As for the click bait, there is a lot of it, and stirring controversy with a popular athlete is a common approach. I have been shocked and disappointed at some of the crazy stuff that came out regarding Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, so it would not surprise me with Paige now.

My reason for thinking there is a small chance Paige could return despite her comments, is not because of unreliable media, but rather because there are several professional, monetary, and legacy reasons she might reconsider, and if she was considering any of those, but wasn't sure, she can wait till the season ends or she is sure. Senior night is not a decision deadline.

Those are all e-tabloids. The once reputable SI, the news aggregator MSN ( they do not write their own articles), the Mirror, Essentially Sports, Sportskeedia, BVM Sports… all dubious sources, mostly AI generated.
