Next four players for '03 after DT:

Ann Strother, Fr, Naismith HS POY
Barbara Turner, Fr. WBCA HS All-American
Ashley Battle, Soph, WBCA HS All-American

Next four players for '11 Maya
Tiffany Hayes, Jr, Parade and WBCA HS All-American
Bria Hartley, Fr, Parade and WBCA HS All-American
Stefanie Dolson, Fr, McDonald's and Parade HS All-American
Kelly Faris, So, McDonald's HS All-American

Both groups were made up of four HS All-Americans (I'm sure I have missed some players making different AA teams). The only difference in experience is that Jessica Moore sat on the bench for a year as a redshirt but practiced with Swin, Tamika, and Ashja her first year at UConn.

Production:

'03 next four:
39.0 ppg, 21.7 rpg, 7.5 apg

'11 next four:
44.1 ppg, 21.0 rpg, 11.9 apg

A bit of difference in production but not much (except for assists, which kind of makes sense).

I think we can put to rest any idea that D played with a bunch of toddlers and kittens while Maya played with the Lebron, Jordan, Bird, and Magic at their peaks

Pure Urban legend! Skylar did not own UCONN in her senior year. To Skylar's credit she beat UCONN three times by getting to the foul line and making enough plays to win
In those 4 games against UCONN Skylar shot miserably! Going 4:15, 11:31, 5:15, 3:15 Mostly because Kelly Faris was right there in her grill!

ND beat us 7 out of the last 8 games before that. When MJ started to gain confidence, we witnessed arguably, the greatest Pg in UCONN history. Nobody, in UCONN history has played defense like MJ. She routinely shut down the opponents best player, while scoring and dishing out assists on the offensive end. I love Kelis Fisher to death, but she's no Moriah. This team is the Greatest in the history of UCONN. Why? Because it had the Best player in the history of the NCAA's, BS. No women's player in the history of the game can do what she can. You may find better defensive players, but they can't shoot like she can. You may find better shooters, but they can't post up like she can. Whatever team that you pick, as being better, whatever year, ask yourself, who guards Stewie? MJ is the best Pg in UCONN history, I love SB, but she didn't have the quickness of MJ and couldn't play defense like MJ can. Who can stop MJ from getting in the lane? MT, name me a PF, in UCONN's history that has the versatility that she has? I'll tell you that they couldn't shoot the 3 like she can. With the exception of RL, MT has no peer on the teams considered to be the greatest in our history. Nobody on those teams can shoot like KLS.

Facts are on my side . 1) Moriah Jefferson played 11 minutes in that. Skylar played 38 Minutes. 2) Moriah Jefferson committed 2 personal fouls in that game Both while guarding Skylar. One of the fouls was the one where Moriah famously put her hands in Skylar face in a illegal guarding position. I never saw that called before. 3) Moriah committed 2 Turnovers in the game one of the turnovers was when Skylar stripped her as clean as can be in the second half to start a ND run and prompted Geno to call a time out. 4) Faris had 2 blocks, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 10 Points and 3 steals and more importantly snagged 3 consecutive OFFENSIVE rebounds in the game deciding sequence.
Are you kidding me with this: "Kelly couldn't handle Skylar, she wasn't quick enough"?
If not for the Griner Faris could easily have been won multiple national defensive player of the year award.

Ok, but we lost 7 out of 8 before that. MJ did frustrate SD. Kelis Fisher, whom I love, is no MJ. MJ is better on both sides of the ball, period!

Not OK, not correct. MJ sub for Kelis Fisher at the 15:24- Prior to that Kelis Fisher was guarding SD and the game was tied @8. By the Time MJ came out of the game @7:51 ND had taken a lead and Skylar had her most productive sequence of the game. Keep watching!

Solely from watching the games, (my general impression), the difference between Mo & Faris: Kelly was a great defender once her man got the ball. Mo was great in that her man rarely got the ball. Both were superior in their own way.

Some people act as if Barbara Turner and Ann Strother were not good players. Mind you one was 5 star and the other a 4 star. And Moore and other girl were great rebounders. So D also had a good supporting cast as well. Greater than Maya had in her senior year.

Please get it right and stop belittling the others or the players who were just considered role models with D. They were better than many are alleging.

Ann S. was a great sharp shooter from the 3. Jessica Moore bang the boards like a beast. And the rest Etc. And that's all DT needed. She did the rest. But she didn't do it alone.

Maya had 5 freahmans. Hayes was lost in space.

Stewie came in with great players...Good for her because winning 4 in a row took just that.

I agree w/a lot of your post. But DT carried that 2004 team. I'm sorry, no way they win that championship without her.

No, Moriah did not. Kelly did. Moriah was a freshmen then and was not yet developed into the point guard we know now and love. You made one point and are now making other points. Coco, i'm on your side. Moriah is a great player, but she had a little impact in the Notre Dame semi final in 2013. Kelly Faris shut down Skylar Diggins in 2013. Moriah was called for two fouls that she committed on Diggins, and helped Diggins more than shut her down.
