Maya and Sue: Naismith HOF Members! (Merged)

Good thing the NCAA is now allowing teams to utilize #'s 6-9, 16-19, etc. Otherwise we may run out of usable numbers. Congratulations to two of our most illustrious players, they both earned this high honor.
 
Dave Benedict is opposed to it, but I would like to rename the court at Gampel "Hall of Fame Court" with the names of all our Hall of Fame players along the sidelines and Geno's name under one basket and Jim Calhoun's names under the other.
 
Congratulations to Sue and Maya! Tremendous accomplishment. i expect there will be a campus celebration to hoist their names alongside the other HOF recipients.
 
I know the HOF has their retirement rules, but they should just include Dee and make it a trifecta!

P.S. I watched the Bird and Taurasi show and loved the retirement gifts they kept presenting Dee! Sue's story about about Dee sending her a selfie from the locker room after getting ejected from a game was also a classic!
 
The report at the top just talked about the WNBA, and they probably could have gotten in on those achievements alone, but they should have added that both are two-time NCAA champions and multiple Olympic champions. Two of the greatest icons of the greatest women's basketball program ever.
 
Maya & Sue inductees for the Naismith HoF, UConn in the title game tomorrow and Kelis Fisher just led IMG to a National Championship over #1 Montverde. Big weekend to be a UConn fan.
Is that National Championship a new event?
 
Just saw the jersey number announcement for the 2025-2026 newcomers, and it got me thinking. When a UConn player gets inducted to the Naismith HOF, traditionally the player’s number gets retired. Will Morgan have to give up her #23 when Maya gets inducted in September? (Q was using Sue’s #10, but that is no longer an issue).

Good question! My guess is that Morgan gives it up at the beginning of the season, end of this season, or completes her career wearing it. But it will be retired in 3 years or less.

I would bet that Morgan will be the last player to be able to wear #23.

As far as I know, #10 is not being used now since Q has left, and pretty sure #23 is also not being used. That means those numbers will never be used again, thinking the ceremony should be this or next year. The sooner the better so I can see it. LOL

#10 won’t be used again. Morgan was able to wear #23 before Maya was inducted, so she’ll likely be the last to ever wear that #.

So here’s the thing. There’s a limited amount of numbers that can be used on basketball jerseys: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and any combination of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 so that referees can signal foul calls with their hands. As more and more UConn greats get their numbers retired, are the Huskies in danger of running out of numbers…kind of like the Yankees in baseball. ;)
