Matthews Decommits

Ouch

Actually wonder if this could be related to the other player in the Akinjo thread. Not sure what the scholarship situation is, but if we needed to make room for a Hurley guy.

Seems kind of odd. He was repping UConn on social media a lot. Hopefully it's Hurley making room but I doubt it

.-.
No decommits will be surprising. This board seemed to overrate this incoming class. Kids will most likely look around and Hurley will be looking at kids he wants.

You have to expect decommits and transfers when you have a coaching change. I'm not even phased by this. Gives Hurley a chance to start bringing in guys he sees fitting into his system sooner rather than later.

Wish all the best for him and Akinjo if they decide to play elsewhere. 2 scholarships open for next year now right?

.-.
Best of luck elsewhere. We needed the scholarship.

This is going to be tough for the next few years..
For the second year in a row we are out trying to fill our scholarships in April..

I seriously thought he was in the bag with his previous comments.. I guess he was being recruited the last month or so.

This was obvious when chill was not retained. I am not saying it’s a bad thing but any kid that was sold the school by two guys who have since been fired anyone else would have done the same.

Yeah this, it can't be that some would underrate a couple of the recruits.

This kid was a good fit say what you will.

(certainly not implying we should have kept KO just saying this one hurts despite what some think)

At this point, any available spot from this roster gives Hurley a chance to fill it with his guys. Advantage UConn.

With guys committed to URI? Outside of that, there can't be many available players, right? I'd imagine we'd be filling with grad transfers as a stop gap for one year

Im not too worried about this at all and it was expected. I expect some announcements in the coming weeks of URI guys re committing to Dan Hurley here.

I said it before KO was canned and I'll say it again now:

- who of the potential returnees or recruits was irreplaceable?
- who would we really fight to keep?

I do think Matthews is underrated, I think he's top 100 caliber and I hope Hurley can re-recruit him. But I fully understand exploring options, especially while you are getting to know the new coach. You want to make sure you are wanted and have a good relationship with the coach. With time so short before June classes, you have to look at all options in parallel.

Exactly my sentiments. Bye bye & good luck.
