Marquette Post Game Thread

Really nice to see UConn win by 15 despite a cold afternoon of shooting between Karaban and Mullins (combined 1-for-12 from 3).

I loved what we saw from Jaylin today. With Ross out, Stewart really stepped up as a glue guy and his energy/assertive/confidence today was really exciting to see.

Outside of the BYU game, it was also Demary's best game as a Husky. His first multi-three point game of the season, good defense and the most confident we've seen him in a while. His comfort level/development is huge for the team's championship goal.
Feels like we'd have a lot less complaints if he had avoided foul trouble. Offensive flow and of course defense was better with him out there today

Michigan had a very bad shooting night the other night and still won by a lot (not sure if you were being serious, I take it no?)
Michigan would take your criticism personally and use it as fuel on the court

He also was loose with the ball that his 3 TO's showed. He needs to tighten his game and I'm sure he will. Good to see Stewart give us the energy in the 2nd half to get us over the line. Also, nice to see Demary look for his offense. He needs to stay on the floor as he is very important to our offense. Smith is alright but I do not want him running the offense more than 15 minutes a game.
I don’t know why Millender doesn’t get more run. Seems very competent when he’s out there.

Positives I saw were Stewie's impact/energy in the paint-Had some excellent entry/dump passes to the Bigs and played tough D. Thought Solo did a nice job on the boards for a guard. Good to see.

I'm sure Danny will have them focused vs Friars. Gotts bring the energy Wed.

Another game with Silas Demary picking up an early 4th foul.

We are not going to where we want to go if that continues to happen. UConn is not a juggernaut with Smith running the point.

Because he's a practice level player and we have two point guards who are way better than him.

20.8% from 3 on thier home court, and 7 missed FTs out of 21...

Demery and Mullins need to stop the reach-in fouling.

Smith, Ball and Reibe need to spend hours practicing FTs.

I never thought that I would say this, but Ross's time on the court is definitely missed.

Kind of a random offshoot but I have always felt the rims at Gampel are super tight. I have nothing to base this on other than my fat rearend watching games but there never seems to be any friendly bounces for either team.

He has not played a meaningful minute in a UConn uniform. All cupcakes or end of blowouts. What is it you all think he will bring to the table at the obvious expense of vastly superior players? Make it make sense.

Well, we were clearly suffering from tight rims today

To win by 16 on 5-24 from 3 isn’t too bad we hit 4-5 more of those it’s a blow out …Welp a win is a win tho on to the next

The offense still looks a little rough.
They ran pretty good offense, just missed a lot of wide open (wide wide open) threes, missed alot of FTs, missed a bunch of point blank shots too. Basically just couldn’t make a shot.

Ball, Demary, and Stewart, Reibe played well today. Karaban played well, but couldn’t make open shots from anywhere on the court.

Rough game for Mullins, and rough 1st half for Smith. Reed was OK but should have dominated Marquette fromt line.

Officiating was decent, glad we didn’t get the Seton Hall / Creighton crew today because those guys were awful.

If Silas can consistently hit threes when defenders go under screens, watch out. Less hesitation which led to a great scoring game. imo his 3rd and 4th fouls were both bogus so I’m not putting much thought into the foul trouble

JAYLIN STEWART! Engaged on both ends of the ball, throwing down dunks, swatting shots, grabbing boards, dropping dimes..fantastic game

Another game Solo can’t make a three but still is the biggest scoring threat on the floor. Did his damage at the rim today, he’s become a really versatile scorer

I don’t know why Malachi can’t make FTs, he shot 70+% for three years at Dayton. Reibe struggled too at 1-3. Otherwise FT shooting was fine. Solo 80%, Silas and Tarris 75%

The basketball gods saw us rip Xavier for 13 threes so made sure we missed them all today. I thought it was funny Braylon missed 6 wide open ones then the 1 that he hit was a contested sidestep pull-up

Marquette is…..bad. Very undisciplined, very out of control, very selfish. What is Shaka doing??? Even when they do manage to get a good look, they can’t make it. Brutal

PC could be interesting, coming in with some confidence and into their Super Bowl.

I'd have to watch again but it didn't feel like Braylon's 6 misses were wide open. At least a couple seemed forced and the one from the logo was open for a reason since defenders don't typically pick up their man out at that distance.

Anyone know anything about Reibe’s fingers? Looked like he had tape on one or two of them. It might have been there last game in all honesty. I don’t recall tho.

Slow start, good flow for ten minutes in first half. Dud of a finish to the first half.
First 6 minutes of second half was watching a lead grownand paint dry. Last 15 minutes was a snooze fest.

Marquette is a bad team and a terrible shooting team.

Positives- They won. Solo is becoming a scorer and not just a shooter. Theyneon easily with Kelraban and Mullins non-factors offensively. Stewart was aggressive and stuffed the stat sheet. Just need Stewart or Ross to be effective each game. Riebe is a great back up center. A luxury all but a few teams have at their disposal.

Negatives- Silas fouls too much and we are seeing Smith's ceiling and limitations. Horrible ahoot8ng from AK and Mullins.

Roles are being defined. Offense runs much better wit Demary in the line up but he takes himself out with fouling. Smith has to get his FT touch back. EveryFT attempt by Smith looks horrible. It's a mental block 2
which shows with his form. Dude could Schhitt out a diamond with the way he is pressing.

It is almost reasonable to see if Millneder can handle back up PG duties.

LOL'd at anyone who took UConn with the points.
