Best wishes to Dorka for "good health" Love your game
get well, .... we need you!
Nice job for AZZI in the second half Well done!
I agree with all the observations above. We'll see
you back in a future game, i.e. Nika and Christyn! Hold those
heads high!

I'm so sick of those bs traveling calls. It was like 6 turnovers right there for us today.
The calls are not BS. I very disappointed that the team has not adjusted to that call this late in the season. Clearly this has been a point of emphasis from the refs since game 1 and UCONN has not adjusted. BTW the refs missed several of those travel calls as well.

Only 13 fouls on entire UConn team. I do not track this stat but seems VERY low, particularly against a talented team.
It does and even more so when you factor in Muhl’s 2 in the first minute and a half.

The Rules Committee instructed the refs to prioritize calls on the shuffling of feet far away from the basket. Anything to slow down the pace & annoy fans. No reason to make this a point of emphasis.
There is a good reason. It gives the offensive player an advantage. The refs will stop calling it when the players stop doing it. Many refs miss calling traveling when players catch a pass and then hop before shooting. That should be called every time. The Rules Committee is not trying to slow the pace and annoy fans. It does not slow DePaul or Maryland.

An overall good effort against a physical team. A slow start again, with Nika getting two quick fouls and a seat on the bench. Having two players as the only 1st Q scorers kind of unusual. Same for 1 three between both teams in the 1st half. No one had a bad game although Caroline won't look back fondly on this one. I suspect she'll get back into the very nice rhythm she had before her injury.

Two non-game things. Paige is, as we know, animated on the bench. She makes... how to say it...a variety of gestures from the bench. Some I get and others might be obvious to a 19 year old, which I ain't. And, after the trophy ceremony somehow Amari ended up alone, clutching the trophy, looking a bit dazed as she wandered off the court.

The question is...
Can UConn go deep in the NCAA's
(Even though the D is fine...good teams defeat good D)
with some important pieces of their lineup
producing less than stellar performances...

And the answer is...too early to tell...and Paige if she returns
will make a difference, but her presence will also make for less playing time
for someone (or two).

The continuing transformation of the team is fascinating
Evina is all the way back...Azzi once in a while loses her man on D
but is so solid and suave...She missed a few shots in a row tonight and I thought
wow...she's really off...How about 5 for 8.
Caroline had a freshman game with 5 (count em) turnovers, but also made a few shots
that no one else on the team would even attempt.
The bigs were all big...Dorka didn't score much but what a wonderful player she is.

Nika and Christyn were less effective than usual
Does the team need everyone to play well to win?
We'll see.

Obviously the mens refs didnt get the traveling call emphasis last night. Villanova walked numerous times and I dont think they ever had it called.

Ah, toward the end of the first quarter, I should have guessed that one of my most un-favorite refs was indeed out there: Joe V. He's usually good for at least a few "blind," outrageous calls and/or non-calls.

And make-up calls...

I am enjoying watching a couple of people on the Boneyard jockey for being the first person to start the post game thread. Long posts, clearly written before the game ends... :)
My "expert" observations:
I am so glad Evina seems to be out of her earlier funk. She was clearly the best player on the floor tonight. I don't know why she disappeared for so long, but I'm so glad she is back! I wonder if Geno will start her soon. Maybe it will be a "if it isn't broke, don't fix it."
Our defense tonight was awesome. Great hedging, great switching, great anticipation. Defense wins championships, so this is good.
Liv was great again. Love to see her being aggressive down low. I hope she will continue to do it against bigger foes.
I love Caroline... love her confidence, her fearlessness, but as I've said before, she doesn't need to shoot every time she touches the ball. She is going to be a good one, but her shot selection is not good. And her rushing things often leads to turnovers.
Loved seeing Azzi going to the basket, since her shot was not falling. A nothing first half, but a pretty good second one.
I wish CW would stop disappearing in some games.. her inconsistency is baffling. So much talent... some great games, some where I shake my head.
AE keeps working hard, so good things should happen.
Nika, Nika, Nika.... what on earth was that second foul with less than two minutes gone in the first quarter. Love her intensity, but she needs to couple it with some smarts.
Dorka continues to work hard every game. Some nights her shots fall, some nights they don't. But consistent hard work is great to see.
Paige????
Agree about CW. So much talent but inconsistent and does disappear. And she played by far the most minutes tonite. Not sure why.

She is not the most athletic Husky, but she plays a steady game within her physical abilities, mostly because she has limited her mistakes and seems to be playing smarter with each game, especially on defense. She has become a reliable, positive presence on the floor. Kudos for her.
