March General CBB Discussion Thread

Kansas starting to play better. Peterson is such a game changer when he’s distributing. Plays very good defense too.

I know the floor is slippery and a bad idea, but it does look kinda cool. A bit monochromatic maybe.

Why would a Big Ten team be ahead of UConn for #2 in the east? I don’t get that at all. Unless it was Maryland or Rutgers.
That wasn’t the implication of what I wrote. We want Zona to jump Duke for 1 overall and for ISU to bump Illinois off the 2 because We want ISU to be the 2 seed in the Midwest. If both msu and Illinois are 2 seeds it would force UConn to the midwest because a BIG team can’t be paired with UM.

But My point was both Zona and ISU can’t win tomorrow due to the Big12 bracket. So We need to hope Duke and Illinois both lose tomorrow.

Why? Who are they going to play that compares to who those other two play? UNC without Wilson? Winning the Big 12 or 10 means beating much better teams than Duke will face.
I begrudgingly agree with auror, because who are we kidding? It’s Duke and they aren’t getting bumped from #1 overall without losing. No faith in the committee.

If Duke is #1 overall then UConn can't be in the East with them as the top 2 seed

Gemini just reminded me even if UConn is #6 overall they won’t be paired with Duke in the east if Duke is #1 overall to “balance” the seeds. They will reward the #1 overall with the last 2 seed. We need Duke (and Illinois) to lose.

Gemini just told me even if UConn is #6 overall they won’t be paired with Duke in the east if Duke is #1 overall. They will reward the #1 overall with the last 2 seed. It’s rigged. Did we get this treatment in 2024? ISU wasn’t the worst 2 were they? We need Duke (and Illinois) to lose.
Iowa State actually was 8th on the S-curve in 2024

It would be ridiculous if Miami of Ohio didn't get in, the fact that this is a discussion is ridiculous enough. Your a bubble team who won't get in now because of 2 Mac teams getting in oh well too bad win more games.

Would there even be a discussion on MOH not getting in if Bruce Pearl didn't say what he said. Come to think of it if MOH doesn't get in there could be a potential lawsuit against Bruce Pearl for having public influence on the committee.

Because Duke is ahead of Arizona in both predictive metrics and resume/WAB AND has the inertia and the elite win tiebreaker as it stands. The margin in KenPom is a decent one. It is very hard to catch a team in the predictive metrics at this point in the season without them losing, because each game is just 1 of x and x gets bigger so each game's proportion of the whole is smaller. Arizona and Michigan can't beat themselves or each other, so they have to beat lesser teams in their league.

Arizona does get Iowa State and potentially Houston, which is best case scenario for them. That's 1.6 WAB they can add. Duke will potentially get Clemson and Virginia, which would be 1.3 WAB. Duke is ahead of Arizona by 0.4 WAB at the moment, so Arizona would gain substantial ground, and would put them close to even in the resume metrics.

But then you're still competing with the fact that Duke was already ahead in the minds of everyone and has a likely predictive metric edge.

Michigan is ahead in the resumes, could pull a bit farther ahead, and is basically even with the predictives. They would have the better shot, but Duke has that head to head win.

It just doesn't feel likely, especially because the committee does a lot of the work on the early seeds pretty early in the process, and it typically takes a loss or something major to really convince them to re-jig the board.

UConn might be the last #2 to drop in if the can’t beat the Hoyas

I guess the floor isn't monochromatic to the players. The lights are giving some migraines

ESPN is pimping up the SEC hard. The SEC bubble teams are bad and ESPN is tying itself in logical knots to justify 10+ bids for the league. The most generous characterization of Missouri, A&M, Auburn, etc. is they have a lot of quality losses.

Conferences need to have their own statisticians tear apart the models because the SEC, which has a losing record against the other majors, finished the season as one of the best conferences of all time according to KenPom.

I will add that the SEC is going to over perform in seeding and quantity of teams in tournament. If the SEC doesn’t get 7 or 8 teams to the Sweet 16, it is time to overhaul the models.

Now Bruce Pearl is back tracking saying MOH should be in. He better hope they get in because I kid you not Pearl could have a potential lawsuit on his hands for having public influence on the committee. Their is no debate on MOH not getting in if not for Bruce Pearls comments.

Yeah, it is quite weird to debut that style court and then pick THAT as the displayed image on the court.

Good morning fellow Jayhawk fans (for today only).

Anybody else catch that corny Ament / Barnes story during the Auburn game ? Barnes talked to him about The Notebook and sat him down to ask "What do you want to do ?". I find it kinda odd to think Rick Barnes is vibing with this kid to convince him to go to Tennessee. I mean what DID he want ? He's a one and done, mocked in the top 10 of the draft for a top 5 recruit out of HS. Barnes has been at this for 40 years and has one final four (0-1) to his name, he certainly isn't selling this kid on great post season expectations. Weird

Had a long recruitment - Tenn made a lot of sense because they could feature him and pony up.

@imno1 what's your question? Ok so here is where I stand on this.

Was there any chatter of Miami of Ohio not getting in before Bruce Pearls comments? I doubt it if there was show me. Pearl has created a narrative that MOH had to win their conference tourney to get in.

It's a dangerous precedent he has set, and showed his bias on Auburn who doesn't deserve to get in. Having an opinion is one thing, showing bias and having a wild and dangerous narrative that has now carried weight is another and believe me being being a main stream media member does have influence on the committee.

Ok a lawsuit maybe too much but people sue over everything. Remember the Utah Attorney general wanted to sue the BCS for not letting an undefeated Utah team in the national championship, now they have the college football playoffs. So while they didn't win the lawsuit there was enough PR pressure on the committee to eventually make change.

After all we're talking top 68 teams here so this narrative that MOH shouldn't get in is stupid. People are too ignorant to see the bigger picture.

I'm guessing "I coached Kevin Durant" was one of the driving factors.

Rooting pretty hard for Arizona and Kansas today.
For:
Zona (to jump Duke for #1 overall)
UVA (best chance of beating Duke)
Bama (potentially replace ISU on 2 line)
Against:
Duke
Illinois (can’t replace ISU on 2 line)
Nebraska (can’t replace ISU on 2 line)

Rooting for Zona is also rooting against Iowa State and for Kansas is against Houston.

I know we beat KU but why are we rooting against Houston? We want them on the 2 line as opposed to Illinois or Nebraska and then being ahead of us on the s curve could also help us get the east
Edit- unless 1 in the south is still in play

Feels like as long as we do our job, that's all that matters. We'll be a 2 lined up to play a goliath in the Elite 8. At this point backing into a desired spot feels like the wrong mindset.

Didn't like how Hurley was validating the season so much last night. Not sure what the point was in that spot. Seems to be selling, no matter what, we had a good season, people should appreciate it. Not overly confident.
