Malachi Smith commits to UConn

I know I’m getting ahead of things and a lot goes on in a years time but, when Smith leaves after next year, I would LOVE a “ short” guard, Deron Rippey Jr, in the 2026 class. Move Silas to the 2 and utilize Adams,Furphy and Demary mainly in the 1&2 and also at the 3.
My hunch is we will go hard after Dylan Mingo instead of Rippey. Mingo is a 6’5 pg from NY 5*

One thing he mentions in this though is that Malachi is a poor defender, which is actually a bit concerning for a backup PG (or maybe we were just spoiled with Diarra).
Who mentions that? I have only seen that he is plus defender for his size.

Is rippey that good he’s gonna need to start? He’s ranked 16 but not a 5*
He’s that good. He’s a composite 5*
Attacks the rim with force, shoots well and can facilitate.
No school would pass him up.

Technically Kevin Beatss had it first lmao.

We’ll have one of the best backcourts in the country. If AK comes back we’ll have one of the best front courts too.

Palpable Buzz.
Keep adding pieces and make it so AK can't NOT come back and go for a third.

Hold up, both of are new guards are juniors?!?!? That makes this haul even better!!!!!

Smith will be entering the 2025-2026 season as a RS Senior, this is his last year of eligibility.
Unless the make the 5th year eligibility thing permanent...

No, Malachi is a Sr. this upcoming year. He redshirted his Jr. year and has played 3 other years. He has 1 year left. He was a RS Jr. this past year.

Ok. Still a tremendous pick up. The On3 profile confused me.

This is really nice depth and provides even more roster flexibility. We really lacked roster flexibility last year and it seems very clear that Dan didn't want a repeat of that. We can now play Silas at SF if needed, at least defensively. Lots of mix and match parts plus we have players even if none of the freshman carve out a major role.
