Malachi Smith commits to UConn

I know I’m getting ahead of things and a lot goes on in a years time but, when Smith leaves after next year, I would LOVE a “ short” guard, Deron Rippey Jr, in the 2026 class. Move Silas to the 2 and utilize Adams,Furphy and Demary mainly in the 1&2 and also at the 3.
It seems only right for Rippey and his dream school to come together.

Welcome Malachi

Playing PG for Hurley is challenging for any recruit/transfer. Now with two Championships and chasing, I predict Hurley will become the greatest point guard recruiter in college basketball. Only the best can play under him. Mastering his offense will be advantageous against for any draftee especially with the two guards we just picked up.

Quite honestly I underestimated what Newton actually accomplished being a transfer and having such success. He is the pg transfer standard. I will also say Dairra accomplished PG success. Just saying I see the success of our future directly tied to our point guard position and this pick up with Demary, will lead Hurley to number three.

I looked at and posted a bunch of possible mid-major PGs in the general portal thread. Out of all the really interesting ones, Malachi is one that when I kept looking at stats, metrics, and overall fit I kept saying “I hope we get”. But I figured we wouldn’t as I expected him to be a big-minute starter somewhere.

Loved that we went after him, loved that we sealed the deal! Seems like a major coup…

MALACHI CRUNCH time…

Is rippey that good he’s gonna need to start? He’s ranked 16 but not a 5*

The 2026 Big East 6th Man of the Year has entered the building. If Mullins doesn't take it from him.

The staff is putting together a very solid roster.

My hunch is we will go hard after Dylan Mingo instead of Rippey. Mingo is a 6’5 pg from NY 5*

One thing he mentions in this though is that Malachi is a poor defender, which is actually a bit concerning for a backup PG (or maybe we were just spoiled with Diarra).
Who mentions that? I have only seen that he is plus defender for his size.

He’s that good. He’s a composite 5*
Attacks the rim with force, shoots well and can facilitate.
No school would pass him up.
