Anna, I wish you the best. I really like your game.

Life comes at you in a hurry.

I was at the AAC Final in 2020 against Cincinnati and I thought Anna was on her way. 35 minutes, 8 points, 8 assists. By the end of the 2020 season, and especially with Walker leaving, she looked like she was ready to take off.

She never got it going in 2020-2021, though, injury a major reason.

She will help somebody. When she is feeling confident, she can light it up. Great court vision and a very good teammate.

This is probably good for both Anna and for UConn. There was no realistic path forward for her at UConn. The window that was wide open a year ago had pretty much closed.

I wonder how Geno plays this, portal wise. The only thing we could arguably need is another banger inside. Is there anyone who fits the bill? I suspect he will pass and add two from the class of 2022, KK Bransford (hopefully) and one more.

There was a three year stretch where we recruited :

1. Walker, Coombs, Gordon, Espinoza-Hunter

2. Nelson-Ododa, Williams

3. Griffin, Makurat

Not great, but it opened up things for the next three years, which have been incredible!
You probably all saw this in the NCAA tournament, but Coombs played a huge role for Georgia. She was a fine point guard.

I might be taking my definition of "trash" one step further than what Nan bans in the rules thread. Obviously no name calling, or "head case", or things like the T word that very well get a person banned. I'd like to see a whole lot less of stuff like this person cannot shoot, too slow, should not be starting, get fewer minutes, or just get garbage time. These are kids good enough to be on the UCONN women's basketball team. We can debate if this is "trash" or just harsh.

Is old snarky Skeets being too sensitive here?
We are here to speculate, debate, compare and share ideas. We can do all these things without trashing, most on the BY are respectful of the team, coaches and players. If posts get out of hand we have very good moderators who know what to do. We can also discuss playing times, starters and woeful shooting and more following the rules.

What a gutsy move, leaving a blue-chip program for places unknown. What's more, knowing most likely by the Baylor game that her time at UConn was short, and no doubt disappointed by her lack of minutes, still giving her teammates the pep talk that everyone acknowledged relit the fire? What a young woman. While I will miss her gorgeous zinging three-point shot, I wish her a lengthy and fruitful career, both in basketball and whatever she pursues after that.

I think as one person said earlier, Evina's decision to come back may have played a role in her decision, so during that Baylor game she may have not known. Before the season even began we all knew who was coming next year, so it was probably more of falling behind basketball and conditioning wise due to injury, plus the fact that all of the upperclassmen were coming back which sealed the deal.

Westbrook staying and Anna going: I am wondering if Paige, CW and Azzi playing together will create a flow that is too fast for EW, and would not have worked well with Anna in the lineup. AE is fast for a 6'3 player with muscle and Olivia moves up and down the court quickly for 6'5.
Too bad she is a liability around the basket. She had best improve or lookout.

The comment about her not having the athleticism needed by a top program is ridiculous. Her skills are obvious. Indeed, if she had been put into the lineup midway through first quarter of Arizona game, UConn would be NC. When Geno failed to realize that it was a lack of scoring (22 points in first half) and ball movement that was killing us and didn’t insert Anna, possibly relegating ONO to the bench, I knew it was all over. Let’s face it, Geno froze and blew it. Even great coaches stumble.
For the last two years, your solution to every problem facing UConn's WCBB team has been to give Anna more minutes. I do look forward to the end of that family of posts.

In this case, I think Geno thought that Anna was simply too rusty from a couple months of inactivity to be effective in a national semifinal game. She did hit two threes near the end of the Iowa game, but only after the game had been decided. She has no track record this year of making shots under pressure when the team really needs them.

Also, Arizona is a small, quick team, which is not the kind of opponent against which Anna can maximize her skills. On defense, who would she have guarded?

Anna thank you for coming here and being such a great team mate and an even better person. We will miss your 3 point shot, leadership and smile. Nothing but the best wishes for you on your next stop. You will always be a "Husky!"
The Gonzaga men's team wholeheartedly added an elite point guard to try and put them over the top (no we definitly don't need a pg). No. They lost the finals, but what a great team. I dont know if we even have a spot. There is 1 intreaging player in the transfer portal. I dont know anything about her the person, or here current skills. Size with experience is our one area we lack depth. I'm throwing this out for the fun of the debate. 6'4" Sidney Cook!

veryolddog-300% agree with you.
Waquoit-300% disagree with you.
You need to be more positive Waquoit. Hope
Anna Mak kills it at her new school!!

I had high hopes for Anna this year and posted as much. I saw all of those great passes she made last year go nowhere because the supporting cast couldn't handle them. I thought this year with better players we would see her true potential but it didn't happen. She got her shot. Not a perfect analogy but when I was at UConn I played a ton of pick-up basketball. I knew my level but every once in awhile I got in a game where I just couldn't keep up. I know what it looks like. You have to sprint to get to the spot others glide to. You look to cheat a bit because you can't play straight up. Anna can play and she will be fine in the right program. It's just not UConn.

Low brass kicks ass

My son plays the baritone

Thought she committed to seton hall

Anna, we're grateful to have had you with us even for so short a time! UConn wishes you the very best future! :)

I saw part of the Georgia-Indiana(?) game. With UGA on defense, there was a tipped pass the like which sent the ball rolling deep into the backcourt. MC and an IU player went after it. In about a half second MC turned on the afterburners and ran the ball down first and got the layup. Serious speed.

Curious regarding your comments about Arizona, who was quick enough? During the game, I would not have put in Anna but when I reviewed the game the next day, there were several spots where her skills were needed. A few 3's at critical moments could have turned the game around.
