I think there is too and I am from New York and now live in Boston. In the 90s before winning it all in 1999 I felt that, too. Trust me the UConn brand is plenty strong here and in NYC and there is no need for the inferiority complex IMO. In ACC country they respect the hell out UConn basketball even if they dislike UConn. UConn has multiple national championships as it has more than any other program in the last 20 years and produced many quality pros.

No matter how bad his predictions are he generates buzz. That is all they care about. People "care" about the bracketology. They click the bracketology link a million times between Mid February and selection Sunday to find out where he thinks their team is. That's why.
 
In his comments, he mentions how MD is going to beat UConn because they were tested by the Big Ten and survived. Huh? 13 losses isn’t quite inspirational.
 
Taliek was always pushing the tempo, driving, dishing. He was an assist machine. Of course he played with some of the best finishers but keeping the pressure offensively was a big part of it. We need more of that.

They wouldn't "destroy" this team lmao. This current team has WAY better athletes. It's a close one... 2014 probably still wins but not destroy

Bouk is in the mold of Rip and Ray. More or less quiet star guards.

It's hard to make comparisons but sophomore Bazz was not the leader he turned out to be in a year+. Can't compare senior Bazz to sophomore Bouk - just not apples to apples.

I'm saying if you are asking me to pick a player (2014 Bazz vs 2021 Bouknight) to help me win a championship, prior to the 2014 championship, I'm picking Bouknight. I didn't think Bazz could lead us to a championship.

Before the NCAA tournament Bazz was 1st Team All-American and POY in his conference. Was also All Big East the year before.

He was a better player all year than Bouk was.
 
I’m just hoping UConn and Nova get to play one more time this year.

Shabazz was a bit of a mess as a sophomore as was Kemba, they made plays and showed some of their talent but the leadership wasn't there. Junior year Kemba was the best leader/player in the country and Shabazz was the best as a senior. It's totally unfair to compare Bouknight who has played less than 1.5 seasons to them.

What I noticed over the past 8 years "religiously" watching and following this re-configured Big East is that ESPN most of the time won't hype it up - that is - It won't put a top 5 or Top 10 match up on their NCAAM homepage, doesn't cover it as much on the sidebar of top articles either. In the first couple of years I noticed they weren't even posting the channel were the Big East matchups were to be aired in their schedule/score section (FS1/FS2/FOX). I started noticing the pattern early but didn't make much of it until someone called ESPN out on it on twitter and made an article about it. ESPN attributed it to some "interface" or accidental error. It hasn't happened ever since.

But I do still notice that ESPN is somewhat indifferent to the league on its coverage. Even last year when the league was the Top league under any popular metric ESPN would go out of its way to say the B12 or B1G were the best conference in the nation.

With that said, once the NCAA tournament starts they tend to fairly cover all the teams. Another observation is that any recognition by ESPN related in anyway to the Big East is usually limited to individual programs. They won't hype the league as a whole or say the "Big East is this or that". You may quickly find isolated google searches to prove otherwise, but the truth is that they simply don't do it at the same frequency that they do for the other top 6 leagues.

But in a way. Why would they? are they going to shoot themselves? Why spend time hyping something up they are not affiliated with? It's like asking ESPN to spend a significnant time on the NHL when they don't profit from it
