Luke Murray’s Replacement

I don't know any of these young assistants focused on analytics. Tried to research it and only found a few names that looked interesting. One was Liam Doyle with the Heat.

By the way, we should get news soon. The job posting says this: "This job posting is scheduled to be removed at 11:55 p.m. Eastern time on May 5, 2026."
hasn't it been extended multiple times already?

Not sure if serious?! We can’t afford him and why would we come as an assistant. If anyone from OKC thunder is hired here, then I’d bet it would be Connor Johnson.
Just kidding. That would be crazy though!

Bet it's someone on Phillies bench that played in Europe for several years and is from the Northeast. I know nothing, it's literally just gross speculation. But hey, the timeline kind of works with all these extensions.

.-.
It’s going to be an analytics guy.

Murray was a Euro ball officinado. We should find someone who understands European basketball and recruiting.

Surprised would be an understatement. It's one of the most desirable assistant coach openings in the entire country, that would be incredibly underwhelming and would have happened weeks ago if it was an internal promotion
Mahaney?

We already know it is going to be an analytics guy. I don't know why this is confusing to be people.

And well, given the delay, it seems likely to be an NBA coach -- although that is just speculation.

I don't want to turn this into a recruiting thread but it would be very strange if Hurley was watching Zachary.

This would be a weird one but in the current transfer era, it is harder to figure out who will be a transfer target 3 to 5 years from now. Establishing positive relationships today could pay dividends down the road.

It’s confusing to people because everyone thought this would be wrapped up like a month ago. Their obvious top target resigned with his current team so people are speculating. That’s alll

Who was this obvious top guy, Preston Murphy?

Have no idea about his interest but would/could explain delay if candidate is a NBA guy with team still involved in playoffs. Tough organization to walk from -Spurs. Throw a name out there- UConn walk-on and Granby, Ct native -Assistant Coach Mike Noyes. No skin in the game-speculation on a prospective candidate profile with a UConn connection.

Mike Noyes makes sense.

Excellent find - degree in math/actuarial science from UConn so obviously an analytics guy. Certainly knows the culture and brings considerable NBA/summer league assistant experience. Being a top level assistant for UConn would be a logical career move.

Was actually surprised at how little NBA Assistant coaches/G League coaches are paid except for those with a great deal of seniority. My point being that a top level assistant spot at a top tier university such as UConn could actually be a significant upgrade financially for many younger NBA assistants. Dan knows Noyes.

Have read where G League coaches make between 75k-125K/season. Saw a press release where the author speculated on Noyes 2024 package with Spurs to be between 100K and 350k. I know that's a wide variance (Spurs did not release specific numbers on Noyes package)but it still demonstrates the range that a younger candidate like Noyes would get. Compare those numbers to what Kimani and Luke made while at UConn and it would suggest that UConn could be a great fit for Noyes from a variety of perspectives.

it kinda makes sense since the spot hasn't been filled yet...

Trilly threw out Rashon Burno. Quick Wikipedia search says long history with Bob Sr and Jr. He was on the staff when Bobby was at the peak of his recruiting at ASU.

Being a strong analytics guy (I can only assume), Burno is shifting through all the equally strong competing offers?

Although, finally UConn might get someone with Jersey connections.

He was a money manager before getting into coaching, he’s probably a numbers guy based on that alone.

What about Darren Erman currently on the Knicks staff, started his coaching career under Bob Sr. At St. Anthony's. Was a former Lawyer that pestered Sr. Until he was offered a job. Defensive minded and worked in scouting for the Celtics under Brad Stevens.

Does seem that way
I don't think so, I know we've wanted him in the past but I don't think what he brings is what we were looking for this cycle from the new assistant

And the stronger offers he is currently sifting through? The UConn job would come with an increase in salary from the job he was quite deservedly fired from.

They already have about as Jersey a basketball connection one could get in Danny Hurley

“finally”? Which part of Garden State natives Hurley and Nardi equates to no one with Jersey connections?
I suspect he didn't mean just “a guy from Jersey,” but “a guy with connections to basketball in Jersey.”

Sure, Dan Hurley grew up in Jersey & played at SH, but he hasn’t lived there or coached there since. So maybe a younger guy (like Nardi) who’s been personally and actively recruiting there more recently?

Except when he lived there and coached there while coaching high school? And except when he lived there while coaching across a channel at Wagner on Staten Island? O.K.

Huh, guess Joisey connections established growing up, playing for, etc with a Hall of Fame coach and local teammates, a decade plus coaching Garden State high school ball, 4 years as a Rutgers assistant, recruiting Joisey guys at Wagner just 7 miles over the Goethals Bridge from NJ, recruiting Jersey with URI and UConn must be irrelevant. /s

Arguably, a quality Joisey tag team with Nardi who left his home state in the early 2000s for Villanova, played and coached in Italy several years, then returned to Nova for several years.

I think he forgot the sarcasm emoji.
I stand by the assertion that a font/emoji isn't required (even if multiple people failed to pick up on it).

(Note: Some of the above contained sarcasm.)
