LSU WBB 2025-2026

All egg beaters in 2025. The first few weeks of 2026, they 4 ranked SEC teams including Texas and Oklahoma plus their rival in OOC scheduling, unranked Georgia
They could have 4 losses the first 2-3 weeks

I have watch a few of their games and yes, Kim's reasoning for scheduling such a soft OOC EVERY year seems flawed. That said, this team is pretty good. I question if their defensive efforts are good enough to truly compete for a title but this team is definitely top 6 in my mind and maybe as high as #2 as they do play both Texas and SC.

Kim does have 4 NCAA Titles but very few Final Fours in comparison to Geno and Dawn. So it seems either who teams have the intestinal fortitude to win or they flame out early. From her Baylor days, I do think the "cup cake" scheduling hurt her for developing that intestinal fortitude to win it all as the Big 12 has never been an elite league when compared to the SEC or heyday of the Big East. I will say the current rendition of the SEC will be enough to prepare them if they are worthy so I don't think too many people will be able to complain at the end of the year. The only question is would a tougher OOC better prepare this team for SEC play.

I think you've got it just about right in this assessment. One thing that gnaws at me though is the 4 NCs refrain everyone feels obligated to use when discussing Kim. That's nothing to shake a stick at. But that last one was in part the product of some very fortunate flameouts by teams who seemed to be (at least on paper) favored over them. In effect, chance or karma cleared some obstacles out of LSU's way for an unlikely NC game in which they'd be favored over Iowa. Of course, it's not really fair to count such things against any team and not do so for all the others. For example, would UConn have won 12 NCs without a little bit of luck, an untimely injury to Jayne Appel or to Natalie Ochonwa or a surprise upset by Louisville over Baylor?

I agree with what you’re saying but just a technicality, I believe Iowa was favored by 2 or 3 points in that title game. LSU matched up poorly with South Carolina that year, but they also had the most seismic performance of any team in any title game in the last decade by hitting absolutely anything they got off, a number of which were “How on earth?” shots.

I’m not really a Mulkey fan and I don’t like how she schedules. But she’s undefeated in title games I believe and she seems to know how to fire her team up to play the game of their lives when it’s all on the line.

This has to count for something.

When are we gonna have a conversation about Kim mulkey refusing to recruit post players. For someone who had nothing but elite bigs at Baylor, she can land or sign any at lsu

Aaliyah Del Rosario and Jersey Wolfenbarger were post players she managed to sign to go LSU but they have transferred. She signed Angel Reese too and she currently has Kate Koval.

I’m talking more so about recruiting quality bigs. Outside of Angel and morrow who has been good?

It’s a carousel of signing mediocre bigs from the portal since mulkey is washed up recruiting Hs players. This is why LSU will be falling out the top 5 in SEC down the road. Dominant bigs are being recruited by SC, OU, Texas, TN, Kentucky etc

LSU is not unique in having trouble signing and keeping bigs. Like other top programs, they are fortunate to be near the front of the line to get the best bigs (like Koval) out of the portal each year. Geno went to Egypt for a center and then signed a girl just learning the game. Fortunately for UConn, the Huskies got Strong. But they also have started to make a habit of picking up a big in the portal every year or two. Texas recruited Jones, Oldacre, and Cunningham out of the portal (all players Texas tried to sign out of high school.) They are redshirting a developmental big. They still need a player to take the place of Oldacre who runs out of eligibility at the end of this season. If they do not get one or two of a couple of Euros out there, you can bet they’ll be warming up early to jump the portal for a post in the Spring.

My point was simply that for all people are knocking Mulkey, at the end of the season, she's doing as well as the GOAT. it.
I’m late to this thread but I disagree with this statement. If we removed all but one guard, took out her top 2 players, and left her with, say 6 active players and an end of bench player, could she get that team to the Final Four? In this arbitrary 10 year period you’ve imposed, the Huskies have had the most injuries to key players ever and Geno STILL got his team close enough to sniff a championship more times than not.

I believe that Geno holds the record for the most consecutive Sweet 16's, the closet is 13, how many does Kim have? Geno has been to 30 of the last 31 Elite Eights, how many has Kim been to? I believe that Geno has been to a total of 24 Final Fours and is 12-1 in National Championship Games. Kim doesn't even come close on any of those achievements. Then there's @HuskyNan's post #90 on the injury bug, there is no way Kim could have gotten a team to the Final Four with only 6 players and almost get them into the National Championship game.

Exactly this is why mulkey is not a good coach and Geno is the goat

Mulkey was propped up by Angel Reese and look at them now

Not directed at you specifically, but I just don’t see how anyone can seriously make this argument with 4 national titles. Did she even have any #1 recruits (Lauren Cox maybe?) after Griner?

I think a better assessment is that Mulkey has rather unconventional tactics for recruiting, scheduling, development, etc that probably turn a number of good players away from the start, but there are plenty who want to be part of it, too.

Again, not directed at you, just seeing this take regularly on the board.

No Mulkey fan here. Really disgusted by her blatant attempt to pad her Win totals by scheduling truly the easiest pre-conference schedule year after year among major schools. I was listening to the homer LSU announcers during the LSU-Kentucky game just gushing over the fact that LSU was averaging over 100 pts per game and has seven players averaging in double figures. I said out loud, "might be different if they had played anyone other than glorified high school teams." Two losses later, Mulkey's strategy has been exposed.

This really should be the time that teams are settling into specific lineups but LSU feels like they are just starting to experiment. I feel like that is a product of the weak non-conference schedule and something we haven't discussed. It's alarming that they're just starting to do that now in the most important part of the season.

I didn’t get to watch. I looked at the box score and was shocked that Flaujae went scoreless in only 16 minutes. I wondered if she had gotten injured but apparently not given her tweet

That tweet is dated 2/27/25?
