The sprain she had in tonight's game is it the same foot she broke in her freshman year?

Yes. Geno says: We'll see tomorrow. Mid-foot sprain. It was a broken metatarsal (as in long bone in mid-foot) she suffered in semi.

Just replayed it, number 3 stepped on her heal and that's what caught her foot. Hopefully just a sprain, I know a couple of posters will be disappointed if she can keep playing.

Who the heck would be disappointed that a great young lady was not hurt badly enough to exclude her from playing? They should relinquish their Boneyard credentials if they are hoping she's hurt.

Sorry, but I don't understand. Why would anyone -- at least anyone here -- be disappointed if she continues to play?
??? ....???
It's super early in the season. The team has enough weapons to continue to win. Why play now on an injured foot so earlier in the season and jeopardize when it matters the most-being ready during the tourney.

How many times have you seen rushing back from an injury backfire and make an injury worse?

There are too many examples. The most recent example is Coates. She got caught up and rushed coming back and couldn't play in the biggest moment of her collegiate career.

She received a "shout out" from her coach while her team hoisted the trophy and cut down the nets. I am sure she would've given anything to play in the championship game.

Sprain is the term often used to describe an injury before imaging is done. Let's hope that's all it is.

Cat, from your knowledge base can you say weather that imaging would be just x-rays or is this something that they would need MRI to really determine what's going on. So many little bones in the foot just makes me think about so many little things that could go wrong.

A midfoot sprain, also referred to as a Lisfranc injury can be mild to serious requiring anywhere from a few days to heel to several months, sometimes requiring surgery. Fingers crossed that Lou’s injury is on the mild end.

Okay, I guess I get it. The poster is saying that some here would be disappointed if she continued playing because she should be resting the injury and making sure she's 100% before she returns. That post is not the clearest explanation I've ever seen. Sure fooled me. Anyway,m I'm dead certain we're all hoping she's okay.

I thought lou played an excellent game tonight. She wasn't hot from the outside but her defense and attacking the basket were really good. I think people are just beginning to see some of the potential she has. I saw flashes of it ( beyond her 3pt shooting ) when she was in high school. Her defensive potential was always there it just needed to be forced out. I think Uconn fans now see that it was always ridiculous to compare her to KML. Oh by the way I am not a fan boy- she was often too testy for my taste. Though I think her time under Gino appears to have mitigated that quite a lot.

I’m hoping for the best, but a “mid foot” sprain can be very serious, potentially requiring months to heel properly.

Swap those heals/heels and replace hugefan's "can" with "cannot" and we're all right with the Husky world.

You would be/are 100% correct. Everyone is wishing she is okay. Only a sick puppie would wish injury on any player. And a sick *^&&(& would be happy about an injury to a player on a team they cheer for.

A mild midfoot sprain is similar to an ankle sprain and can be treated with RICE(Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) and recovery time is generally 1-2 weeks. More moderate sprains require a non-weight bearing cast for 6 weeks and physical therapy for an additional 2-3 weeks.

A severe Lisfranc injury with the presence of a fracture, a tear in the ligaments, or both, requires surgery, 6-8 weeks of non-weight bearing, and 3-4 weeks of physical therapy.

Needless to say that we all are praying that this is just a mild sprain for Samuelson and that she will be back ASAP.

The only good thing in terms of the injury is that they were allowing Lou to put weight on her foot for the whole of the second half. Typically someone with a Lisfranc injury would be prevented from putting any weight on that foot.

In reviewing the game the huge black and blue on the underside of Lou's foot is typical Lisfranc. Treatment for a mild Lisfranc is indeed a non-weight bearing cast for 6 weeks and 2-3 weeks for therapy. It looks iffy. As I said, end of January. I hope not.

Right, I don't know from Lisfranc injuries, but I was surprised how casually she was walking around during the warm-ups before the second half. And then during team time outs, while she wouldn't race out on the court with the rest of the team, she was standing and clapping with no obvious discomfort.

And typically somebody doesn't play on a broken foot like Samuelson did her freshman year. They will only know how severe Samuelson's injury is tomorrow, when they get the imaging done. I am praying for the best, but honestly I have got a real bad feeling about this one.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but the foreseeable future, the pressure falls on the new sixth man: Megan. She will need to grow into her role much faster than Geno had planned for her....

Tough with Batouly out at the same time....
