Louisville Board- "Pitino: Stay Or Go"

I just can't believe they lost to PC by 31.
The irony of LVille going up there and getting their asses handed to them on the night they celebrated the 25th anniversary of PC's final four is too delicious.

Who are they replacing him with that they are so amped for him to leave?
Louisville's a heck of a job. Brand new arena and practice facility. Rabid fanbase. Great tradition. Wouldn't Brad Stevens have to think long and hard about it if he was offered, especially since it looks like Crean is turning things around at Indiana?

Of course this is all moot. Pitino's not going to get fired, he's under contract until 2016, and I don't think he's going to pack up and leave on his own.

Depends how hot the heat gets. He did do this to the Celtics, by the way.

There were a lot of UConn fans questioning JC after the 2010 season saying he couldn't coach or recruit and should retire. And I'm sure most programs have fans that want to see the coach dismissed after a bad season, even if they had success at the school in the past. This occurs in all fields and in all human endeavors and is pretty universal.

It's human nature to emphasize the importance of things that are wrong much more strongly than things that are right.

When you want your AD to fire a coach, be careful what you wish for. Brad Stevens is the one guy who everyone would call if they were looking to replace a HC, but even then, there's no guarantee he'd thrive in any given environment. Most successful coaches represent a marriage of coaching ability and circumstances. Tom Izzo, Jim Calhoun, Coach K- those guys don't grow on trees, and who knows whether they'd have been as successful elsewhere.

Louisville might be better off without Pitino. I'd be willing to bet they wouldn't be, however.

I'm going to go with "Stay".

I'll buy that for a dollar. :)

Lots of crow for supper down here, boys. What a shame.

The guy is an outstanding college coach, pretty foolish to argue otherwise. He's got a ring, took 3 schools to the Final Four and has missed the 20 win total once at Louisville, his first year. That technical yesterday came at the perfect time.

I think where they've fallen short some years is by being too reliant on the 3 point shot, but this year's team has developed a little inside presence and penetrates better than previous teams. If Louisville fans don't want him, I think many of us here would be happy to have him in a year or two.

So, am I reading this right, that if Calipari leaves Kentucky, Pitino wants the job?

stay, don't stay, go, don't go, doesn't really matter to me. i actually think Pitino is a good coach and a good recruiter. maybe he's under achieved in the NCAA's, but i don't ever remember him putting a crap team on the court (like this year's Pitt and 'nova teams, and PC or Depaul in general). clearly he's not in the same class as JC, but who is? even IU at this point would love to have the "lack of success" L'ville has had in the past 10 years.

There is a lot less competency on message boards than there is in the coaching ranks.

Actually the competency is much higher. It's the standards that are much lower.
